Job Summary

SY9, based at Rosehill is the inaugural Hyperscale Data Center in the Equinix Australia business, and we are looking to recruit a newly re-shaped role of Critical Facilities Engineering Manager. The position will be to take ownership of all facets of the onsite facilities function including overseeing our site based engineering teams, collaborating with cross-functional, construction and Hyperscale's teams and work closely to support the Eastern Campus Senior Manager.

Great communication skills, the ability to identify risks and plan well ahead of time will all be extremely beneficial to all applications. In the initial stages of the role there will be a focus for the Manager to learn site infrastructure and all Equinix processes and policies to best succeed in this position. This means having the humility in early stages to work closely with Equinix colleagues at all levels and understand the complexities of the site. This will enable you to then work in a more effective manner and assist in developing and supporting junior or developing engineers, whilst directing and harnessing the strengths and experience of our onsite engineering specialists.

The role will require someone with a strong technical, engineering mindset and experience and be matched by exceptional leadership and management of the Data Center. The manager will need to be financially and commercially aware and have a key understanding to assist with budget input and management.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership

• Direct Management of SY9 Senior Engineers and the Data Center supervisors (who leads the team of shift technicians) and is responsible for the 24/7 operational oversite and direction of SY9 encompassing both technical and engineering disciplines within the critical facilities operation

• Communicates importance of working safely, effectively and with high regard to human error avoidance

• In absence of Senior Manager may take on additional leadership and management tasks

• Provides strategic guidance and direction to deliver Equinix priorities including SLA, Commit compliance, campus capacity management and Data Center availability

• Forecasts operational training needs, development plans, and secures resources for deploying training to address those needs

• Inspires and operates high-performing team that is fully engaged and meets its goals and performs with accountability and integrity. This will include overseeing all performance reviews, improvement and development plans, recruitment and retention activities

Infrastructure, incident and Vendor Management

• Accountable for budget adherence, resource allocation and drives successful implementation of maintenance initiatives across the site

• Oversees vendor qualifications for inclusion into campus projects/activities

• Works cross-functionally with Equinix Engineering and Construction groups assisting with the design and implementation of data center projects

• Plays a key role in relation to any future construction, fit-put project works across SY9 and future Hyperscale builds and planning

• Collaborates with leaders on broad-scale Regional and Global projects that have an impact on the business, working with cross-functional teams, including Business Partners (Finance, IT, P&L) and general contractors

• Manages the teams to ensure completion to Equinix's required standards, KPI's and SLA’s

• Communicates and coordinates activities and on-site staff during complex or severe customer-impacting incidents

• Drives root cause analysis and provides a clear direction for site teams

• Makes recommendations for incident resolution and applies company resources to advance productivity and effectiveness

Operations Strategy and Financial Management Benefits of the role:

• Successfully manages/oversees the CAPEX and OPEX budgets.

• Establishes and manages budget for the site, including assessing areas of risk and proactively identifying and mitigating these risks

• Assists in drafting proposals for data center infrastructure improvements which require capital expenditure approval.

• Encompasses support for company's strategic direction within Data Center systems, policies, and procedures

• Builds collaborative relationships with our customer, and customer support teams

• Provides detailed routine status reports on Data center performance for key metrics

• Drives overall accountability, consistency and effectiveness across SY9

• Actively ensures an understanding of delivering within the HyperScale operating model

Qualifications, skills and attributes:

• Proven track record for taking ownership and delivering results in a fast paced and demanding data center environment

• Experienced with budget management exposure (headcount, capital, and expense management)

• Critical operations experience required with a strong understanding of communications and mechanical/electrical/controls systems.

• Well versed in the complexities of project and construction management processes, from master planning to construction administration

• Deep understanding of design documents, contracts, and technical information

• Demonstrated experience managing campus level requirements and making targeted recommendations

• Strong understanding of performance management and recruitment, development and retention of employees
