AI Engineering at Equinix: A deep tech role with scope and impact

mei 26 2026

Looking for a deep tech AI engineering role with far-reaching impact? At Equinix, engineers build production grade, Agentic AI platform that operate inside mission critical digital infrastructure powering cloud, data centers and the internet itself. This is AI built for real world use, designed to run at enterprise scale.

Rajeev Shastri, who leads the APAC AI engineering team as Director of AI, took the time to share more about what kind of AI work engineers do at Equinix, how teams in Bangalore contribute to global platforms, and what we’re looking for in candidates.

AI engineering at Equinix: Built for production

Equinix is not a consumer AI company, a SaaS‑only platform or a research lab. It is the physical and digital backbone of the internet itself, a place where a significant portion of global internet traffic flows every day. That reality shapes how AI is built here.

“At Equinix, AI is not just an experimental capability,” Rajeev explains. “It directly influences how customers scale, connect and innovate in an increasingly AI‑driven digital economy.”

This is AI engineering for critical environments, where systems must be:

  • Reliable and secure by design
  • Integrated with real enterprise workflows
  • Able to operate across regions, time zones and infrastructure layers

For Rajeev, Equinix represents a convergence point where experience across infrastructure, platforms and enterprise systems come together. “What makes Equinix different from other organizations I’ve worked with is this combination of global infrastructure scale, ecosystem connectivity and strategic relevance to the AI era,” Rajeev says. “The problems we solve here, whether it’s optimizing data center capacity, enabling AI‑ready infrastructure or building intelligent agentic systems for the enterprise, have an immediate and far‑reaching impact across industries and geographies.”

What Equinix AI engineers work on

AI work at Equinix spans some of the most challenging spaces in the industry, particularly where AI intersects with infrastructure.

“We work on some truly challenging and impactful areas, applying advanced AI and machine learning to optimize data center capacity, improve operational efficiency, and support smarter planning and decision‑making across Equinix’s global footprint,” Rajeev notes.

In parallel, Equinix is building an enterprise‑scale Agentic AI platform, a multi‑agent, governed and scalable foundation designed to transform how work gets done across the company. This platform spans IT, Finance, Legal, Operations, HR, Sales and Corporate functions, enabling intelligent agents to collaborate, reason and execute end to end across systems and workflows.

For engineers, this means hands‑on work with:

  • Multi‑agent orchestration systems
  • Reusable, composable AI agents
  • Enterprise‑grade governance, security and observability
  • Deep integration with real enterprise tools and data

Rajeev adds, “What makes this especially exciting is the speed and scale at which the team is operating. In just three months, we designed, built and launched a beta version of the platform across the enterprise, moving ideas quickly from concept to production, where AI solutions are used by real employees solving real problems every day.”

How teams work: leadership and culture

Bangalore is one of the key hubs in Equinix’s global AI engineering footprint. “What makes the role especially rewarding,” Rajeev says, “is the intersection of cutting‑edge AI innovation with mission‑critical infrastructure while collaborating with talented teams across APAC and globally.” Engineers in Bangalore are part of the APAC AI engineering team, contributing directly to platform‑level initiatives used across the enterprise.

The engineering culture at Equinix is designed around ownership, autonomy and accountability. Rajeev says, “I expect my team to take ownership, act with accountability, and stay focused on delivering meaningful business outcomes. In return, they can expect trust, empowerment and the freedom to do their best work.”

Of course, Rajeev is there to support when needed. “‘I’m with you’ matters to the team during peak moments, whether it’s a personal journey or a major enterprise product release.”
