Role Summary / Opportunity

 

Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, the Vice President, Product Architecture & Security Platform serves as a critical catalyst for technology transformation, platform modernization, and strategic differentiation.

 

The VP is a key member of the Global Product senior leadership team responsible for defining and driving the architecture, security, and advanced software platform strategy that enables the company's next generation of digital products and services.

 

The VP will oversee three strategic areas:

  • architectural leadership and incubation of Network and Security Platform capabilities
  • creation and scaling of an AI-native Product Security and Application Security engineering organization
  • development of Layer 7 networking applications and agentic AI capabilities that create new customer-facing software and platform opportunities.

 

Combining deep technical expertise with strong business and organizational leadership, this executive will establish architecture standards, build critical security talent and capabilities, and partner across Product, Engineering, Infrastructure, and Information Security teams to accelerate innovation, strengthen the company's security posture, and unlock higher-value software growth opportunities.

 

 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

 

AI software incubation for Security Applications

  • Lead incubation of AI-powered security applications and services across L7 and application security domains.
  • Build agile engineering capabilities that rapidly assess, prototype, and scale emerging AI market opportunities.
  • Drive innovation in intelligent traffic management, endpoint routing, and secure application connectivity.
  • Develop revenue-generating adjacencies with Fabric and security platform offerings.
  • Identify and accelerate new AI-driven product opportunities that strengthen Equinix's competitive differentiation.

Sovereign security platforms

 

  • Own the strategy and roadmap for sovereign security platforms supporting trusted AI, data sovereignty, and regulated workloads.
  • Build security-attested automation, certification, and compliance capabilities that enable enterprise AI training, fine-tuning, and inference deployments.
  • Drive industry partnerships and standards participation to position Equinix as a leader in trusted AI and sovereign infrastructure ecosystems.
  • Identify and scale new market opportunities in secure AI, confidential computing, and sovereign cloud services.

 

Architecture leader for Global Products

 

  • Establish and govern architecture standards, frameworks, and engineering practices across product areas.
  • Drive engineering maturity through capability assessments, coaching, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead adoption of cloud-native, agile, DevSecOps, and quality engineering practices while ensuring security and compliance.  Define long-term technology strategy and platform roadmaps aligned to business priorities.
  • Govern architectural risk, technical debt, and platform sustainability across the portfolio.

 

Engineering performance, governance and continuous improvement

 

  • Drive engineering performance through measurable outcomes, operational metrics, and delivery excellence.
  • Establish governance frameworks for technology investments, risk mitigation, and architectural compliance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that increase engineering productivity, quality, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Develop data-driven insights and accountability mechanisms to optimize organizational performance and execution.
  • Align engineering operations and investments with business strategy, customer needs, and growth objectives

 

Programmable Interfaces (API) roadmap


  • Own the strategy, architecture, and roadmap for APIs related to programmable infrastructure services.
  • Establish API governance, security, and lifecycle standards across the portfolio.
  • Enable customer automation and self-service through scalable, reliable, and developer-friendly interfaces.
  • Drive innovation in network, security, and infrastructure programmability to accelerate platform adoption. Expand ecosystem partnerships and developer engagement to grow platform consumption and revenue.

Knowledge and experience required


  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering and technology leadership roles at both startups and mid to large complex enterprise app companies Proven record of launching and building early security app or security platform-like products. 
  • Networking domain knowledge essential as is the ability to lead a team of network architects

Skills and attributes required


  • Strategic thinker with a customer-centric mindset, passion for innovation, entrepreneurial drive and the ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Deep understanding of emerging technologies, and product development.
  • Deep expertise in modern software engineering practices across DevSecOps, NetOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), cloud-native architecture, and agile methodologies.
  • Experience driving architectural standardization across a federated or product-aligned technology organization.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to influence and partner cross-functionally, including product, security, data, and infrastructure teams.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational change skills; able to engage at all levels from executive leadership to engineers.
