Job Summary
At SY9, our 1st Australian Hyperscale site we have 2 newly created roles for Lead Critical Facilities Engineers. The positions will suit candidates with a strong technical understanding of a mission critical environment, this is an individual contributor role and leadership skills (experience ideal but not mandatory) are required to ensure we harness a strong team culture of site safety, engineering and operational excellence and a team first environment.
With a team of engineers at different levels of experience and capability, the Shift Lead engineer will take ownership of their shifts, helping mentor, guide and lead junior colleagues, and play a key role supporting the site supervisor.
The critical facilities team works 24/7 (2 days, 7am-7pm / 2 nights, 7pm-7am and 4 days off) and the successful applicants will help alleviate SLA risk exposure, drive team capability and actively take a part in developing our site teams with the help of structure Global Ops Academy and Bronze Badging Program.
We have 2 x roles available and are looking to interview immediately for the positions.
Key responsibilities:
Leadership
- Ensure strong on-shift guidance and leadership, particularly on night hours
- Reduce SLA risk exposure by guiding more junior colleague (often at entry/graduate level) during all shifts
- Support site supervisor in building a strong and well-rounded team culture
- Actively supports training and upskilling of colleague to increase team capability
Facility / Infrastructure Maintenance
- Sound understanding of critical infrastructure related to site (e.g. UPS, STS, AHU, Chillers, Cooling Towers, CRAH, CRAC)
- Resolves advanced incidents and develops new procedures and techniques to support the overall team
- Monitors the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and resolves alarms for complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve. Makes recommendations for new procedures to management team
- Leads and coordinates critical infrastructure operations
- Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues. Makes recommendations for new procedures
Vendor Support
- Directs vendors on highly skilled tasks to ensure that maintenance activities are carried out per standards and requirements
- Assists with the creation of scripts for maintenance and submits
- Tracks and implements the work approval process for critical service providers (including briefing at the start of work, control of work during the day workday/shift, final review of the work carried out)
- Inspects implementation changes/updates to technical files for plants and equipment (in cooperation with vendor and the supervisor's) ensuring builds are up to date
Site Administration & Incident Support
- Completion (develop, approve, maintain) of complex site logs and data gathering for issuing of permits, such as Maintenance Operation Protocol (MOPs) (SOPs/EOPs) and engineering scripts
- Assists with the development, approval and maintenance of policies and procedures (MOP/SOP/EOP).
- Identifies and escalates process discrepancies to higher management
- Identifies Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and makes recommendations for new procedures
- Acts as a support team lead for operating processes and procedures; supports the team on adherence
- Supports the on-site staff during critical incidents
- Confidently interpret single line diagrams (SLDs) to understand power distribution systems and support troubleshooting and operations
- Responds to all on-site incidents, including major failures, significant problems and delays and escalates when required
- Assists with RCA (Root Cause Analysis)
- Assists management with maintaining technical documents
Collaboration
- Collaborates with others to resolve highly difficult facility incidents; identifies and understands underlying issues
- Act as a support team lead when identifying component level faults and provides recommendations for new procedures
- Utilizes resources outside of the department, as necessary
- Advises on inventory needs to maintain optimal stock levels of critical parts and equipment
- Advises other team members on repairs and preventative maintenance
- Acts as a support team lead on implementing highly skilled, complex projects
Qualifications, key skills and attributes
- Trade Certified or bachelor’s degree in related Engineering field
- Strong leadership capability, and desire to mentor developing engineers
- Aspirations and competency to move into supervisory, or specialist engineering positions within the business (with SY10 opportunities a likely progression pathway)
- Commitment to site safety and compliance
- Availability to work in a 24/7 environment (4 on 4 off)
- Develop, approve and maintain policies and procedures (MOP/SOP/EOP)
