Two years in... From intern to full-stack engineer at Equinix

Oct 14 2026

Do interns actually get to be part of meaningful work? It’s a question many final-year students and recent grads ask when they’re weighing offers. The concern is real. No one wants to spend months observing from the sidelines, working on tasks that never make it into production, or waiting too long to learn something that matters.

At Equinix, that’s not how internships work. For Bhagyashree, now a Senior Associate Software Engineer, the difference was clear from the start. When Equinix's applications evolved from low-code platforms to full-stack solutions, Bhagyashree had the opportunity to grow alongside them, expanding her skills and helping build solutions from the ground up.

We chatted with her to find out more about her journey at Equinix.

Why did you decide to join Equinix full-time after joining us as an intern?

When the opportunity to join full-time came up, it felt like a natural decision. I knew Equinix was a place where I could continue learning, take on new challenges, and grow alongside talented people who genuinely wanted to see me succeed. The experience during my internship gave me confidence that I would be supported and trusted as I continued my career here.

What does your day-to-day work look like now?

My day-to-day work is a mix of designing and developing solutions, collaborating with teammates, and helping unblock others when needed.

While I spend time working on my own deliverables, I also enjoy supporting team members by sharing knowledge, discussing different approaches, and solving challenges together. Some days are focused on development and design discussions, while others involve working with cross-functional teams, improving processes, or contributing to initiatives that support the wider team.

One thing I value most is the variety. Every day brings an opportunity to learn something new and contribute in a different way. I wasn't simply observing. I was contributing code, participating in design discussions, and seeing solutions move into production.

How have you grown your career at Equinix?

One of the biggest growth opportunities I have had at Equinix was the chance to expand beyond my original area of expertise.
When I joined, much of our work focused on low-code development. As our applications evolved and we transitioned toward full-stack solutions,

I was given the opportunity to learn, experiment, and contribute to that journey.
I had the opportunity to work on projects from the ground up, including understanding requirements, designing solutions, building applications, and supporting them through deployment. This experience helped me develop both technical and problem-solving skills while giving me exposure to different parts of the software development lifecycle.

What I appreciate most is that Equinix encourages people to step outside their comfort zone. The trust, mentorship, and opportunities I've received have played a significant role in my growth from an intern to a full-time engineer.

What is the team and culture like at Equinix?

I would describe my team as supportive, collaborative, and always willing to help. People genuinely care about each other’s success and are open to sharing knowledge and ideas.

What I appreciate most about the culture at Equinix is that everyone is encouraged to contribute, regardless of title or experience level. Questions are welcomed, different perspectives are valued, and there is a strong focus on learning and continuous improvement. It creates an environment where people feel comfortable trying new things, sharing ideas, and growing their skills.

There is also a strong sense of community. Beyond my day-to-day work, I participate in various Employee Connection Networks (EECNs) events, including volunteering initiatives, sports activities, and other employee programs. These provide many opportunities to connect with people across the organization. These experiences help build relationships, foster a sense of belonging, and contribute to a culture that values both professional growth and community involvement

How are you supported during busy or high-pressure periods?

During busy periods, my manager and team lead help us stay focused on what matters most. They encourage us to break challenges into manageable pieces, prioritize high-impact work, and collaborate as a team instead of trying to solve everything individually. By keeping priorities clear and distributing work effectively, they create an environment where we can stay productive and support each other.

What would you tell someone considering an internship at Equinix?

If you are looking for a place where you can learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact, Equinix offers a great environment to do that. You will have the opportunity to work on challenging problems, collaborate with talented people, and gain exposure to technologies and solutions that support businesses around the world. If you are curious, willing to learn, and eager to contribute, it is a place where you can build both your skills and your career.
