Job Summary
An entry‑level engineering role supporting the operation and maintenance of data center critical facilities. The Critical Facilities Engineer II builds foundational technical skills while performing routine facility and infrastructure tasks under close supervision. The role focuses on learning and applying standard operating procedures, supporting site reliability, and contributing to safe, continuous data center operations.
Responsibilities
Facility / Infrastructure Maintenance
- Performs basic preventive maintenance checks on non‑critical facility components while learning critical facilities standards and practices.
- Assists with basic repairs and maintenance activities on non‑critical facility systems under supervision.
- Monitors the Building Monitoring System (BMS) in accordance with standard operating procedures and supports response to basic alarms under guidance.
- Learns fundamental data center facility systems and operational processes through structured task execution and hands‑on exposure.
- Receives detailed instructions for work activities and performs tasks under close supervision to ensure safety and accuracy.
Vendor Support
- Coordinates with vendors by supporting standard operating procedures and following defined site processes.
- Assists senior engineers with vendor access, documentation, and supervised maintenance activities as assigned.
Site Administration & Incident Support
- Supports basic site documentation and permit processes, including preparation and tracking of Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs) and scripts under supervision.
- Assists with routine incident response activities and follows incident procedures as directed by senior staff.
Work Orders & Additional Projects
- Completes basic facility‑related work orders under supervision and in accordance with established processes.
- Assists senior team members with routine incident management tasks and learning opportunities.
- Provides support on small facility tasks and minor project activities as directed.
Collaboration
- Provides assistance to internal departments during routine maintenance activities.
- Supports senior Critical Facilities Engineers during infrastructure work and may shadow projects to learn operational standards and best practices.
- Works as part of a team environment focused on safety, reliability, and continuous learning.
Qualifications
Typical Degree & Years of Experience
- Typically requires a Higher Nitec/Diploma and 1 year of equivalent work experience, preferably in facilities, building operations, technical services, or a similar environment.
- Technical or vocational training in electrical, mechanical, or building services is an advantage.
Work Requirements
- Ability to complete hands‑on tasks at height or in tight spaces, including work around facility equipment and infrastructure.
- Ability to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and participation in shift‑based schedules, as required to support 24x7 data center operations.
