Building products, leading communities

set 15 2026

The best career stories are often shaped by the opportunities you didn’t expect to find. The chance to stretch beyond your role, explore new ideas, and contribute in different ways can completely change how you see your work. For Michelle Binczyk, that journey has taken her from sustainability-focused product development to helping shape digital experiences that support customers around the world. In this edition of People Spotlight, we spoke with her to learn more about her journey at Equinix.

How has your impression of Equinix changed from when you first joined till now?

When I first joined Equinix, I came in with a background as a product manager focused on sustainability software, building tools that help organizations understand and act on their environmental impact. Equinix immediately stood out as a place where sustainability wasn’t just a reporting exercise but deeply connected to real infrastructure and real operations.

Initially, I saw Equinix as an infrastructure leader with incredibly deep expertise and massive scale. Over time, my perspective has evolved. Today, I see Equinix as a company actively transforming into a digital product organization, one that’s taking operational, environmental and infrastructure data and turning it into meaningful, customer-facing experiences. That evolution is what gave me the opportunity to go from working on a customer-facing sustainability tool to working as a product manager for Smart View.

What does your day‑to‑day work look like?

What I love about Equinix is that no two days look the same. My day-to-day is a blend of strategy, execution and discovery. I spend time with customers to understand their challenges; work closely with engineers and the User Experience team to shape solutions; and collaborate with sales, operations and leadership to prioritize what matters most.

Some days, I’m shaping big-picture vision and roadmaps, and other days, I’m deep in workflows and edge cases. Everything connects back to building products that help customers make smarter and more informed decisions.

When people hear “Equinix,” they often think of infrastructure. From your perspective, what kind of technology company is Equinix building today?

Equinix’s digital infrastructure is increasingly data-driven. While infrastructure remains foundational, we’re emphasizing what we build on top of it: insights, visibility and intelligent tools that customers can use in real time.

Products like Smart View reflect this shift. We’re taking complex operational data and turning it into experiences that empower customers to understand their footprint, optimize performance, and operate more efficiently. It’s a natural extension of the sustainability and digital product work I’ve done throughout my career.

What opportunities have you had to grow your career here?

Equinix has given me opportunities to grow both professionally and personally. I started by building sustainability tools, an area I was already very passionate about, and I was encouraged to explore adjacent customer needs. That curiosity led me to Smart View and other digital initiatives, expanding the scope and impact of my work.

Beyond product development, Equinix places real value on community. I joined the We Are Equinix (WRE) Canada Green and Sustainability group early on and have served as Team Lead for the past two years. It’s been a rewarding way to develop leadership skills, champion sustainability and connect with colleagues across the business.

Those connections, both within and outside my day-to-day work, are a big part of what makes the culture feel collaborative, supportive and genuinely human.

How would you describe your team and the culture at Equinix?

I’d describe the culture at Equinix as inclusive, agile and deeply customer-focused.

My team brings together people with different backgrounds, perspectives and expertise, which is essential when you’re solving complex real-world problems on a global scale.

What I appreciate most is how quickly our team can rally around a customer facing a challenge. We focus on understanding the problem, testing ideas, and learning fast. Instead of waiting for things to be perfect, we value progress, feedback, and continuous improvement.

The people who thrive here are curious, adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity. They enjoy experimenting, validating assumptions and refining solutions as they go. If you like working cross-functionally, value learning through iteration and are motivated by solving meaningful customer problems, Equinix is a great place to build and grow.

What would you tell someone about the opportunity to join Equinix?

If you enjoy solving complex problems, collaborating with people who care about what they do, and working on products that make a tangible difference, Equinix is a place where you can make an impact while continuing to grow. For me, that’s been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

As Equinix continues to evolve as a digital infrastructure company, employees like Michelle Binczyk are helping shape what comes next. Her journey is a reminder that some of the most exciting opportunities can come from following your curiosity, embracing complexity and building solutions that create real impact for customers.
