Job Summary

The Critical Facilities Engineer IV has a strong understanding of data center operations and supports a wide range of engineering activities across facility systems. This role requires sound judgment in troubleshooting issues, making recommendations, and executing maintenance and operational tasks. The focus is on maintaining reliable, safe, and efficient operations by applying a solid understanding of standard operating procedures while contributing to overall site performance and team success.

Responsibilities

Facility / Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility components and systems to ensure reliable and continuous operations.
  • Execute repairs, maintenance activities, installations, and on‑site inspections across facility infrastructure, supporting energy efficiency initiatives where applicable.
  • Monitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and respond to alarms, applying sound judgment and technical knowledge to identify and resolve issues in accordance with procedures.
  • Operate and maintain plumbing, fire suppression, and life‑safety systems in line with site and regulatory standards.
  • Support the operation of critical infrastructure, escalating complex or high‑risk activities to senior engineers when required.
  • Perform day‑to‑day operational tasks with limited supervision and receive general guidance for new or non‑routine assignments.

Vendor Support

  • Support the work approval and oversight process for service providers performing maintenance activities, including pre‑work briefings, monitoring execution, and reviewing completed work.
  • Ensure vendor maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with site procedures, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with vendors to update technical documentation, drawings, and asset records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Site Administration & Incident Support

  • Prepare and maintain site documentation and permit records, including Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs) and operational scripts.
  • Identify Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) within facility systems and recommend actions to improve reliability and resilience.
  • Respond to on‑site incidents, including equipment failures, operational issues, and service disruptions, following established incident management procedures.
  • Apply strong knowledge of operating procedures to support on‑site administration and compliance activities.

Work Orders & Additional Projects

  • Complete operational work orders and support system installations related to facility infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain auxiliary systems and equipment to minimize downtime and operational impact.
  • Implement approved changes to mechanical, electrical, and specialized systems as directed.
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades, maintenance programs, and site improvement projects.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve facility incidents and support operational activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members on maintenance practices and operational procedures.
  • Communicate inventory requirements and assist in maintaining appropriate stock levels of critical spare parts.
  • Recommend facility or infrastructure improvements based on operational insights and identified risks.

Qualifications

Typical Degree & Years of Experience

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering, or relevant practical experience.
  • Typically 2–4 years of experience in critical facilities, data center operations, or a comparable technical environment.

Work Requirements

  • Ability to complete hands‑on operational tasks, including work at height and in confined or tight spaces within a data center environment.
  • Ability to work non‑standard hours, including shift‑based schedules, weekends, night shifts, and public holidays to support 24x7 mission‑critical operations.
