Job Summary

The Senior Associate Engineer for NPE Observability is a key contributor to the development and maintenance of Equinix’s global telemetry platform. In this role, you will build and optimize the pipelines that collect and process data from our global network. You will bridge the gap between software development and network engineering, ensuring our observability tools are scalable, reliable, and automated. This is a role for an engineer who is passionate about clean code, distributed systems, and the inner workings of large-scale service provider networks.

Responsibilities

Execution & Infrastructure

  • Clean Implementation: Develop and maintain scalable, automated code for our on-premise telemetry infrastructure, ensuring all contributions follow team standards and "Clean Code" principles

  • Operational Excellence: Provide consistent technical updates on project milestones and actively integrate industry-standard CI/CD and automation tools into the development lifecycle

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify bottlenecks or friction points within the telemetry data pipelines and propose effective, automated solutions to improve performance

Support & Reliability

  • Incident Response: Act as a technical point of contact for incident resolution, performing root-cause analysis to ensure system uptime

  • Compliance & Monitoring: Assist in defining SLA metrics and ensuring that daily deployments remain ITIL compliant

  • Stakeholder Interaction: Serve as a reliable contact for internal teams regarding their telemetry and monitoring needs

R&D Contribution

  • Technical Research: Investigate new observability tools to help define future engineering practices

  • Skill Development: Stay current with the latest trends in the observability and AIOps space, contributing to new features that align with the broader Network Platform Engineering strategy

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3–5 years in software engineering, including 1–2 years  working withing an enterprise or service provider networking environment

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • Coding Standards: Solid understanding of SOLID principles and design patterns in Java or Go

  • Networking Fundamentals: Practical experience with major vendors (Cisco, Arista, or Juniper) and their respective Yang model implementations. Proficiency and experience working with service provider networking technologies and protocols, including BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, QoS, EVPN, VXLAN, etc.

  • Technical Requirements: Proficiency in SQL, exposure to Kafka or Flink, and hands-on experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK Stack

  • Infrastructure: Experience deploying and managing applications on Kubernetes (K8s), Jenkins and ArgoCD

  • Nice to Have: Exposure to Thanos or scripting in Python/Puppet

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - Redwood City Office GHQ : 109,000 - 163,000 USD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
