Who are we?

Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company®, shortening the path to connectivity to enable the innovations that enrich our work, life and planet.

A place where bold ideas are welcomed, human connection is valued, and everyone has the opportunity to shape their future.

Joining our operations team means being at the center of everything – maintaining and evolving critical infrastructure that powers the digital world and delivers real impact for our customers, communities and society. You’ll find belonging, purpose, and a team that welcomes you—because when you feel valued, you’re empowered to do your best work.

The Role

This isn’t a “keep-the-lights-on” job — this is a run-the-site-like-you-own-it role.

As a Supervisor Tech 6 – Critical Facilities Engineer, you’re the go‑to expert when things get complex. You work independently, take ownership of the most challenging technical issues, and help shape how the site operates — not just how problems are fixed.

You’ll lead by expertise, not titles. When systems fail, projects land, or procedures need re‑thinking, you’re the person others turn to.

What You’ll Be Doing

Keep the Heart of the Site Running

  • Own complex preventative and corrective maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Lead the technical response during major incidents, outages, and high‑risk activities.
  • Monitor and act on BMS alarms that require deep technical judgment and fast, independent decision‑making.
  • Solve advanced issues — and turn lessons learned into better procedures for everyone.
  • Inspect and oversee life‑safety systems, fire suppression, plumbing, and critical infrastructure.
  • Spot opportunities to improve energy efficiency, resilience, and reliability.
  • Help define the scope for lifecycle replacements, end‑of‑life equipment, and critical upgrades.

Be the Trusted Technical Lead (Vendors & Projects)

  • Help select, guide, and oversee vendors working on critical systems.
  • Make sure high‑risk work is done safely, correctly, and to standard.
  • Create and review MOPs, scripts, and technical documentation before work starts.
  • Control the full work approval process — from pre‑job briefings to final sign‑off.
  • Ensure drawings, technical files, and plant documentation stay accurate and up to date.

Step Up When It Matters Most

  • Complete and review complex site logs, permits, and operational documentation.
  • Identify Single Points of Failure and push improvements before they become incidents.
  • Support the team in following operating procedures — and help improve them where they don’t work.
  • Be on the front line during critical incidents, major failures, and urgent escalations.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and help drive real, lasting fixes.
  • Work closely with management to maintain strong, practical technical standards.

Projects, Capacity & Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver high‑skill work orders, complex installations, and infrastructure changes.
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting to keep downtime to a minimum.
  • Contribute to capacity planning and risk reviews.
  • Lead infrastructure project activities from planning through execution.
  • Make controlled changes to mechanical, electrical, and specialist systems where required.

Work Like a Senior Engineer Should

  • Collaborate across teams to solve difficult, system‑level problems, not just symptoms.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for component‑level failures and rare issues.
  • coach and advise other engineers — sharing expertise and practical know‑how.
  • Plan and manage inventory for critical spares and equipment so the site is always ready.
  • Lead technically complex initiatives that raise the bar for how the site operates.

What You Bring

  • Extensive hands‑on experience in critical facilities, data centers, or similar mission‑critical environments.
  • A track record of working independently on complex systems and making sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Confidence to lead during incidents, challenge processes, and improve how work gets done.
  • A practical, calm approach — especially when things don’t go to plan.

Education:

  • Typically a Bachelor degree in electrical or mechanical Engineering, German Meister degree, or similar, plus significant relevant experience.
