Job Summary

The Manager- Privacy Engineering & Data Protection Compliance sits within the Data & Privacy Office (DPO), part of Equinix’s Legal organisation, and is responsible for ensuring that data protection and privacy obligations are effectively implemented and operationalised across systems, processes, and business operations. 

 

This role is technical and delivery-focused and will serve as a critical link between the Data & Privacy Office (DPO), the Digital & Innovation Organization (DIO) (particularly Information Security (InfoSec)), and other business functions across Equinix. 

 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Work with the DPO to translate legal and regulatory requirements into actionable technical and operational solutions 

  • Support and drive the embedding of privacy-by-design, data governance, and AI governance into technology and business processes 

  • Enable the development of scalable frameworks, controls, and tools to support compliance 

  • Contribute to ongoing monitoring, KPI tracking, and audit-readiness of privacy and data protection controls 

 

This role will act as the bridge between legal and technical teams to ensure that regulatory requirements are implemented in a practical, measurable, and sustainable way, enabling both compliance and innovation. 

 

Responsibilities 

Privacy Engineering, Compliance & Implementation 

  • Work with DPO to translate regulatory and legal requirements (e.g. GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, India DPDP Act, China PIPL, and other global privacy laws) into technical controls, system requirements, and operational processes  

  • Lead and/or contribute to the design, creation, and continuous refinement of privacy, data protection, and security-related processes, standards, and policies to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and operational needs 

  • Support and drive implementation of Privacy by Design across products, platforms, and internal systems  

  • Partner with engineering, InfoSec, and product teams to embed privacy requirements into system architecture, development lifecycles, and operational workflows  

  • Define, implement, and maintain technical and organisational measures (TOMs) aligned to legal obligations

  • ​Conduct and support hands-on technical evaluations, including:  data flow analysis, system and architecture reviews, privacy impact/risk assessments 

  • Contribute to the development of standardised patterns, guardrails, and reusable solutions for privacy compliance 

Data Governance & Lifecycle Management 

  • Support and help drive implementation of data governance frameworks, including: data lifecycle management, data classification 

  • Partner with business and technical teams to map data flows, processing activities, and system dependencies  

  • Support development and simplification of operational controls  

  • Enable consistent implementation of data handling standards across the enterprise 

Data Security 

  • Partner with InfoSec to ensure privacy requirements are embedded within data security controls and practices 

  • Support compliance alignment with security frameworks and standards (e.g. ISO 27001, NIST) 

  • Contribute to third-party risk management, vendor onboarding, and data security reviews 

  • Support implementation of privacy-enhancing technologies (e.g. data masking, minimisation) 

AI Governance & Responsible Data Use 

  • Support and help drive implementation of AI governance frameworks, including policies, controls, and risk management practices 

  • Translate legal and regulatory requirements relating to AI and automated decision-making into operational controls and guidance 

  • Support responsible and compliant use of personal data in AI systems 

  • Contribute to development of training, FAQs, and business guidance for AI usage 

Data Privacy Program Enablement (Operationalisation) 

  • Support and contribute to implementation of the organisation’s data privacy compliance program, including:  privacy policies, standards, and procedures, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) 

  • Support responses to customer, vendor, and regulatory data protection queries 

Incident Management & Regulatory Support 

  • Support privacy incident management processes, including coordination with cybersecurity teams 

  • Contribute to incident assessments, escalation processes, and regulatory reporting inputs 

  • Help define and refine roles, responsibilities, and handoffs between privacy and security incident processes 

  • Support continuous improvement of incident response frameworks 

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration 

  • Work closely with Legal, InfoSec, DIO, HR, Procurement, and other business functions across Equinix to support implementation of privacy requirements 

  • Act as a translator between legal, technical, and business teams, ensuring clarity and alignment 

  • Build strong working relationships to enable consistent and scalable adoption of privacy controls 

  • Communicate risks, trade-offs, and priorities effectively across stakeholders 

Tools, Automation, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement 

  • Support use and optimisation of privacy and compliance tools (e.g. OneTrust, ServiceNow)

  • Help design and implement monitoring, KPI tracking, and reporting frameworks to measure effectiveness of privacy controls 

  • Contribute to development of audit-ready processes and evidence frameworks aligned to regulatory expectations 

  • Drive continuous improvement of key processes, including privacy assessments 

  • Identify and incorporate lessons learned from incidents, audits, and operational issues to continuously improve processes, controls, and documentation 

  • Support automation and scalability of compliance operations 

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in technical privacy / privacy engineering, technology risk, compliance, or information security 

  • Demonstrated experience working across legal, technical, and business domains  

  • Experience supporting or implementing privacy and data protection programs 

  • Experience developing and refining processes and documentation based on lessons learned from incidents, audits, and operational issues 

Regulatory & Framework Knowledge 

  • Working knowledge of global data protection and privacy laws, including (list is not exhaustive): GDPR (EU), CCPA/CPRA (US), DPDP Act (India), China PIPL (desirable) 

  • Exposure to security and risk frameworks such as (not exhaustive): ISO 27001, NIST frameworks 

  • Exposure to broader regulatory and resilience frameworks (e.g. NIS2 or similar), where relevant to data protection and security alignment 

  • Willingness and ability to build expertise in global regulatory requirements and frameworks 

Technical & Functional Skills 

Understanding of

  • Technology environments, including data flows, system architecture, networks, applications, cloud infrastructure, authentication systems, and data platforms 

  • Privacy engineering techniques (e.g. minimisation, masking) 

  • Data governance and lifecycle management 

  • Security controls (in collaboration with InfoSec) 

  • Experience with compliance tools such as OneTrust, ServiceNow, or similar 

Core Skills 

  • Ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into technical implementation 

  • Strong stakeholder management across legal, security, engineering, and business teams 

  • Analytical and problem-solving capability with attention to detail 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment 

  • Familiarity with enterprise change management and transformation best practices 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrixed, global environment 

Education & Certifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 

  • Relevant certifications (desirable)

  • CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT 

  • CISSP, CISM 

  • ISO 27001 or similar
