Job Summary

Due to an internal promotion we are again adding to our Controls Engineers who deliver support to our Australian Data Center’s as part of the Cross-Functional team.

The Controls Engineer will perform advanced system maintenance and support across different sites, leading sophisticated projects utilising all available resources. You will assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures and effectively interact with other internal and external teams. This may include the design engineering, site engineering, regional operations support and vendors whilst consulting on projects, policies and procedures of often complex matters. This role will also be encouraged to carry out Smartview support to the site teams and projects.

The role will suit someone with a strong technical background who is an excellent communicator in written and verbal form - including the ability to compose technical and position papers for publication internal and external to the company.

You will have gained authoritative controls system knowledge sufficient to rapidly comprehend new systems, and ideally come with broad brand experience including but not limited to Honeywell, Schneider, JCI, Siemens, Delta Controls or an industrial PLC installer. In this role the expectation will be to share your control system design, operations, maintenance and project planning expertise with the wider facilities team, which will be key in troubleshooting and optimizing operations.

Key responsibilities:

System Operation and Work Practices

  • Expert operating knowledge of control systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs

  • Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix process and procedure and industry standards to resolve complex issues

  • Utilises safe working practices at an experienced level (e.g. can apply procedure for lockout/tagout, can explain MSDS, etc)

  • Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others whilst interacting with other engineering teams

Problem Solving and internal/external contact

  • Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues

  • Implements and makes recommendations for complex system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems

  • Tests suitability of components for deployments on complex assignments

  • Contributes to mentoring and directing junior team members and external vendors and contractors

  • Leads teams per project or initiative such as General Contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.

  • Interactions are primarily to exchange information between departments within the organization, so expert level communication and technical writing are needed

Training

  • Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training, participation in industry groups or meetings and shadowing others

  • Is SME with many systems and trains others inside and outside of the group

Adherence to Policy and Procedure

  • Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities and data center physicals

Qualifications, key skills and attributes:

  • 7+ years in control system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with a emphasis and special focus on controls preferred

  • Bachelors degree or relevant Trade Cert preferred

  • Data Centre experience will be highly regarded

  • Experienced in Microsoft and Visio

  • Experience with data collection and conversion software such as Kepware, Matricon, TopView, OSISoft Pi or equivalent

  • Must be conversant with direct digital control (DDC) systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) debugging and programming
