The Opportunity:

As a Senior Staff Engineer for Equinix Fabric, you will be at the heart of our mission to build a fully programmable, self-service Connectivity-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform. You aren’t just writing code; you are architecting the nervous system of the global digital economy.

The Role:
We are looking for a visionary technical leader who balances "hands-on" mastery with high-level systems thinking. You will own the technical lifecycle of multiple product features, understand customer use cases, demonstrate curiosity to learn, dive deep to get to the root cause of issues, collaborate with team members to deliver. You will be able to communicate thoughts and ideas clearly. You will have the chance to mentor junior engineers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Leadership: Work with architects to define and drive a multi-year technical roadmap. You will ensure Equinix Fabric scales to meet the SLA demands of our global partners.

  • System Design: Lead the design of high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems using SOLID principles, Clean Architecture, and cloud-native patterns.

  • API-First Ecosystem: Standardize API contracts (OpenAPI/Swagger) and Northbound/Southbound interfaces to ensure seamless integration between Equinix, AWS, Azure, and GCP.

  • Mentorship & Influence: Act as a force multiplier by mentoring junior engineers, conducting rigorous code reviews, and fostering a culture of technical excellence.

  • Stakeholder Consultancy: Act as a technical consultant for internal product teams and external customers as they migrate to new platform solutions.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years of software development experience, with at least 3+ years in a technical Lead role leading development and delivery of large-scale distributed software system.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software negineering, or a related field.

  • Networking & Infrastructure:

    • Deep fluency in the 7-layer OSI model and its application in developing management and control plane software.

    • Expertise in Cloud Networking and Virtual Network Functions (VNF), specifically how they interface with physical or virtual network devices.

    • Hands-on mastery of Kubernetes (K8s) and Docker, with experience architecting containerized microservices at scale.

  • Distributed Systems & Data: 

    • Working experience with high-throughput messaging services like Apache Kafka for real-time data orchestration.

    • Working experience on tuning RDBMS, TSDB/NoSQL technologies, based on specific consistency and availability requirements.

  • API & Connectivity Strategy:

    • Proficiency in REST API design (OpenAPI/Swagger).

  • Soft Skills:

    • Communication: Ability to translate feature requirements or architectural needs into software design and code.

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - Redwood City Office GHQ : 163,000 - 245,000 USD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
