Entry‑Level Data Centre Technician

About the Role

This role is ideal for someone starting out in a data centre environment or moving over from a hands‑on technical background (electrical, IT, cabling, facilities, or similar). You’ll work as part of a supportive team, carrying out day‑to‑day operational tasks, learning standard processes, and developing your technical skills on the job.

You will be given clear procedures, training, and guidance, with opportunities to build confidence and progress over time. Data Centres are a great future for your career!

What You’ll Do & learn to do

Work Orders & Reporting

  • Review work requests in the ticket queue and complete tasks within agreed timeframes
  • Work with other teams to support customer-related tickets
  • Keep systems and records up to date and accurate
  • Help with reporting and basic data updates
  • Share ideas for improving processes and ways of working

Equipment Installation (Rack & Stack)

  • Install customer equipment into cabinets (rack & stack)
  • Follow clear installation plans and instructions
  • Support installations such as:
    • Cabinets and cages
    • Cable trays and cable management systems
    • Fibre and copper cabling
  • Carry out basic quality checks and flag any issues or capacity concerns

Cross‑Connect Support

  • Help install, test, and modify data centre cross‑connects
  • Follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines
  • Learn different connection types (e.g. fibre, copper, switched circuits)

Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Support basic testing of network connections
  • Assist with fault finding and troubleshooting
  • Escalate more complex issues to senior technicians
  • Work with customers and the wider team to resolve issues

Customer & Site Support

  • Provide a friendly, professional experience for customers on‑site
  • Support site access and escorting where required
  • Help manage customer expectations around timelines and changes
  • Act as a point of contact for routine customer queries

Stock, Alarms & Site Support

  • Monitor stock and materials and raise requests when supplies are low
  • Support alarm dispatch and escalated work orders
  • Provide occasional back‑up support to security or site teams

Projects & Teamwork

  • Support small projects and new deployments
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors when required
  • Perform basic quality checks on completed work
  • Work closely with teammates and learn from more experienced engineers

Training & Development

  • Complete all required training on time
  • Learn data centre systems, tools, and procedures
  • May support or buddy new starters as confidence grows

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Interest in technology, infrastructure, or hands‑on technical work
  • Willingness to learn and follow processes
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Good attention to detail and a customer‑focused mindset

Previous data centre experience is helpful but not essential – training and support are provided.
