Job Summary
The Senior Manager, Energy Origination and Structuring, is responsible for originating, structuring, and securing reliable, cost‑effective, and low‑carbon energy solutions to support Equinix’s power needs across the AMER region, including LATAM. This role leads commercial origination activities, utility engagement, contracting, and strategic power development initiatives for new and existing data center projects.
The position requires deep experience in energy markets, utility relationships, large‑load connection processes, renewable and wholesale market opportunities, and emerging low‑carbon power solutions. The Senior Manager will work cross‑functionally with Engineering, Energy Ops, Sustainability, Legal, Finance, and Global/Regional leadership to deliver long‑term capacity solutions aligned with Equinix’s growth strategy.
Responsibilities
Origination & Market Strategy
Identify and originate new power opportunities that align with Equinix development timelines, regional needs, and long‑term market strategy
Evaluate and secure energy solutions through utilities, wholesale markets, IPPs, renewable developers, onsite/near‑site generation, and hybrid options
Monitor regulatory changes, energy policy, market evolution, and competitive trends to inform regional energy strategy
Wholesale Structured Transactions
Lead structured energy procurement for new and existing data centers, including PPAs, tariff design, and market‑based supply solutions
Work with renewable energy developers and utilities to secure cost‑efficient, low‑carbon energy solutions to support Equinix’s climate goals
Utility & Stakeholder Engagement
Own senior‑level relationships with utilities, regulators, energy suppliers, and regional partners
Maintain comprehensive understanding of utility programs, connection policies, queue structures, and long‑term planning processes
Represent Equinix in executive‑level utility discussions to secure capacity, advocate for data‑center‑ready programs, and negotiate commercial terms
Connection & Capacity Planning
Lead the negotiation and management of utility connection agreements across AMER to ensure reliable and timely power delivery for new builds and expansions
Partner with the Energy team and internal stakeholders to ensure Equinix maintains visibility into long‑term capacity needs and risks
Co‑Siting, Onsite & Near‑Site Power Development
Evaluate onsite and near‑site power generation, storage, and co‑siting opportunities as potential solutions for long‑term and interim capacity needs
Coordinate with Global Design & Construction on feasibility, cost, regulatory barriers, and commercial structure
Renewables, Clean Energy & Sustainability
Partner with the Clean Energy & Innovation team to evaluate and negotiate procurement options supporting Equinix’s clean energy and decarbonization goals
Drive adoption of cost‑effective, scalable clean power opportunities across the AMER portfolio
Cost Management & Risk Mitigation
Ensure the energy strategy delivers the lowest cost, highest quality service to Equinix customers
Identify and mitigate risks related to market volatility, regulatory uncertainty, project delays, and contractual exposure
Cross‑Functional Leadership
Lead collaboration across Engineering, Legal, Finance, Sustainability, Real Estate, and Construction to align on energy‑related decisions and project requirements
Provide expert guidance on deal structures, regulatory impacts, commercial risks, and power infrastructure readiness
Skills & Attributes
Strategic Vision: Ability to craft long‑term strategies across multiple regions and technologies
Technical Leadership: Strong analytical abilities and the capacity to interpret complex commercial, regulatory, and technical data
Negotiation Expertise: Proven ability to negotiate energy agreements and manage relationships with utilities, regulators, and suppliers
Customer Focus: Ability to translate energy decisions into customer value and communicate effectively across the enterprise
Continuous Improvement: Ability to drive innovation and improve processes across the energy development lifecycle
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Business, Economics, or related field
Advanced degree or energy‑specific certifications preferred
7+ years in energy origination, utility engagement, energy procurement, or power development, with direct experience managing large‑load commercial or infrastructure‑scale energy project
Proven experience structuring and negotiating complex power deals across renewable, wholesale, and utility‑supplied markets
Strong experience working with utilities and Independent Power Producers in the U.S., CAN & LATAM
Deep knowledge of power markets, renewable technologies, transmission systems, capacity planning, and utility interconnection processes
Understanding of regulatory frameworks, regional planning bodies, and grid‑reliability considerations
Spanish, French, & Portuguese beneficial

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:
United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI : 155,000 - 233,000 USD / Annual
United States - New York City Office NYO1 : 171,000 - 257,000 USD / Annual
Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.
The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
