Job Summary

We are seeking a Principal Engineer for the Product Software team at Equinix to help build next-generation software products and architecture for our Equinix infrastructure software platform. Your primary responsibility will be to architect, design and develop platform services, and to collaborate with partner teams to understand their requirements and usage patterns. A commitment to collaborative problem solving, system design, and product quality is essential. You will work closely with product engineering, architects and product managers.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Participate in the technical strategy for modular, event-driven, and scalable microservices that power enterprise-grade workflows

  • Develop reusable frameworks and self-service platforms for onboarding, configuration, and lifecycle management

  • Champion design principles that balance innovation, maintainability, observability, and operational excellence

  • Contribute directly to code while influencing long-term technical direction

  • Continuously improve our software development lifecycle, tools, and processes

  • Communicate and document clearly in a hybrid-first environment

  • Build distributed, scalable, and highly available services with simple APIs

  • Set and champion development and operational best practices

Engineering Excellence

  • Lead by example—building reliable, secure, and observable systems with strong performance SLAs

  • Establish best practices for API-first development, automated testing, DevSecOps, and continuous delivery

  • Partner with product managers to translate business intent into technical outcomes that scale globally

Mentorship and Influence

  • Serve as a mentor and technical coach, raising the level of engineering maturity across teams

  • Cultivate an engineering culture grounded in curiosity, experimentation, and craftsmanship

  • Advocate for pragmatic innovation—balancing long-term platform health with short-term delivery needs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent

  • 10+ years of engineering experience with strong depth in distributed systems, API platforms, and cloud-native development (Java, Golang, or equivalent)

  • Proven experience in designing and operating microservice architecture at scale

  • Deep understanding of data modeling, domain-driven design, and API lifecycle management

  • Deep expertise in cloud technologies

  • Knowledge of Container orchestration, Workflow orchestration, Networking

  • Excellent communication skills; able to influence at multiple levels of the organization

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - Redwood City Office GHQ : 213,000 - 319,000 USD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
