Job Summary
The Engineering Manager leads a team of software engineers responsible for delivering and supporting enterprise applications, including but not limited to ServiceNow and other SaaS or custom-built platforms. This role is accountable for team performance, delivery execution, quality, and operational reliability. The manager builds strong partnerships with Product Managers and stakeholders, provides clear technical direction, and supports a healthy, transparent team culture. They are responsible for hiring, coaching, and developing engineering talent while helping shape long-term plans and technology strategy.

Responsibilities
Stakeholder Management

  • Builds strong working relationships with Product Managers, business stakeholders, and partner engineering teams

  • Communicates risks, dependencies, impacts, and trade-offs clearly and proactively

  • Facilitates open, balanced discussions to resolve conflicts and align on priorities

  • Manages stakeholder escalations, ensuring timely resolution or engagement with senior leadership when needed

  • Ensures commitments are clearly understood, tracked, and met


Team Leadership

  • Directly manages a team of software engineers, driving performance, growth, and accountability

  • Leads hiring efforts, onboarding, and career development for team members

  • Conducts performance reviews, compensation discussions, and ongoing coaching

  • Fosters an inclusive, open, and collaborative team environment that encourages honest communication and shared problem-solving

  • Models the organization’s values and sets expectations for responsible, high-quality engineering practices


Resource and Budget Management

  • Manages resource allocation, capacity planning, and utilization across the team’s portfolio

  • Works with leadership to forecast staffing and budgeting needs, escalating exceptions as necessary

  • Supports selection, onboarding, and oversight of external vendors or contractors

  • Tracks vendor deliverables and ensures they meet quality, contractual, and timeline expectations


Execution and Delivery

  • Oversees planning and execution of engineering work, ensuring teams deliver on time and within agreed scope

  • Provides clarity around goals, milestones, and deliverables, holding contributors accountable

  • Identifies execution risks early and ensures mitigation plans are in place

  • Guides teams through complex or cross-functional initiatives across multiple systems or platforms

  • Ensures that projects adhere to budgets, governance requirements, and operational KPIs


Technical Direction

  • Provides high-level technical guidance and reviews solutions for soundness, scalability, and maintainability

  • Uses experience with SaaS platforms—such as ServiceNow or similar enterprise systems—to guide platform improvements, integrations, and architectural decisions

  • Partners with engineering leads and architects to ensure alignment on standards, patterns, and long-term maintainability

  • Sponsors continuous improvement across code quality, automation, observability, and operational maturity


Operations and Reliability

  • Oversees triage practices, incident response, and root-cause analysis cycles for critical issues

  • Ensures the team manages L2/L3 escalations effectively and delivers high-quality post-incident learnings

  • Identifies recurring issues and leads the team toward durable, systemic fixes

  • Reviews and approves operational changes, ensuring quality, risk mitigation, and production readiness

Strategic Alignment

  • Leads or contributes to the creation and refinement of engineering processes, standards, and policies

  • Helps define roadmap priorities and communicates plans with clarity to stakeholders and partner teams

  • Ensures alignment with global technology standards and organizational initiatives

  • Drives innovation and continuous improvement within the team, encouraging experimentation and thoughtful adoption of new technologies


Qualifications

  • 1+ years professional experience in a software development leadership role

  • Bachelor's in Software Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Strong background in software engineering, including experience with ServiceNow or comparable SaaS/enterprise platforms

  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, drive accountability, and deliver high-quality solutions

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills

  • Experience guiding teams through complex integrations, platform evolution, or modernization initiatives

  • Ability to reason about trade-offs, maintain operational discipline, and support sustainable engineering practices

  • Familiarity with Service Management concepts is desirable

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

Canada - Toronto Office TRO : 112,000 - 162,000 CAD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
