Who are we?

Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company®, shortening the path to connectivity to enable the innovations that enrich our work, life and planet.

A place where bold ideas are welcomed, human connection is valued, and everyone has the opportunity to shape their future.

Joining our operations team means being at the center of everything – maintaining and evolving critical infrastructure that powers the digital world and delivers real impact for our customers, communities and society. You’ll find belonging, purpose, and a team that welcomes you—because when you feel valued, you’re empowered to do your best work.

Job Summary:

As part of the critical engineering team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and optimising mission-critical electrical infrastructure that keeps the data centre running 24/7. You’ll work on moderately complex systems, applying sound engineering judgement to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve electrical and facility performance.

This role sits at the heart of operations—combining hands-on electrical engineering expertise with real-time problem solving, system monitoring, and continuous improvement. You’ll support the wider team while taking ownership of day-to-day activities across power, controls, and supporting infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Electrical & Critical Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on critical electrical systems including switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, and power distribution networks
  • Diagnose and resolve faults across low- and medium-voltage systems, ensuring maximum uptime and reliability
  • Support installation, inspection, and commissioning of electrical infrastructure and upgrades
  • Monitor and respond to alarms via Building Management Systems (BMS), using engineering judgement to identify root causes and restore normal operation
  • Operate and maintain essential facility systems including power, cooling interfaces, fire protection, and safety systems
  • Work under guidance of senior engineers while developing deeper expertise in critical environment operations

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Oversee and support vendors carrying out electrical maintenance and project work on-site
  • Ensure all works are delivered in line with Equinix operating standards, safety protocols, and change processes (MOPs/SOPs)
  • Act as a technical point of contact during works—ensuring proper briefing, supervision, and post-work validation
  • Collaborate with vendors to keep electrical schematics, asset documentation, and system records accurate and up to date

Incident Response & Engineering Assurance

  • Take ownership of electrical incidents and alarms, supporting rapid diagnosis and resolution to protect uptime
  • Identify and assess Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) within electrical systems and recommend mitigation actions
  • Support incident management processes, contributing to root cause analysis and preventative measures
  • Maintain accurate engineering logs, switching records, and permit documentation, ensuring audit readiness

Operations, Work Orders & Projects

  • Execute electrical work orders, including circuit installations, modifications, and system upgrades
  • Troubleshoot issues across facility and support systems to minimise downtime and operational risk
  • Carry out controlled changes to electrical and supporting systems in line with engineering direction
  • Contribute to infrastructure projects, supporting capacity expansion, resilience improvements, and efficiency initiatives

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with engineering teams to resolve complex incidents and improve system reliability
  • Share knowledge and support peers on electrical maintenance best practices and safety standards
  • Provide input on spare parts, critical equipment, and inventory planning to ensure operational readiness
  • Contribute ideas to enhance electrical system performance, resilience, and energy efficiency

Qualifications

  • Background in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or a related technical discipline
  • Proven hands-on experience working with critical electrical systems (e.g., LV/MV power, UPS, switchgear)
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety, fault finding, and maintenance practices in a live environment
  • Relevant technical certifications (NVQ Level 3, AM2, Gold Standard) or equivalent practical experience
