He leveraged his solid foundation at Equinix Singapore into a stepping stone to leadership in Equinix Malaysia.
His journey mirrors Equinix's bold leap into Malaysia, with the launch of two data centers - KL1 in Kuala Lumpur and JH1 in Johor - as part of a long-term vision to support digital transformation in the Southeast Asia region. With KL1's second phase set for completion in under a year, Equinix is doubling down on a strong commitment to Malaysia, empowering local talent and business with high-performance and AI-ready infrastructure, while fostering cross-border career growth through global talent mobility initiatives.
After nine years at SG1 Singapore Data Center, Yan took on a new challenge. Now serving as Assistant Manager at KL1, he leads a dedicated team of seven to ensure friction-free, mission-critical operations for the world's digital giants.
"I want to challenge myself. The move gave me fresh purpose and a chance to grow closer to home," says Yan, whose hometown in Seremban is just an hour away from KL1.
From ground crew to leadership
Starting his career on the operations floor, Yan's path shows what's possible in a nurturing environment like Equinix, where hard work meets opportunity. His hands-on experience with managing customer requests, overseeing large migration and troubleshooting tech infrastructure, he built the skill set needed to take on team leadership, vendor management and strategic advisory expertise in his new role.
In his early tenure with the pioneering team at KL1, Yan played a major role in shaping the internal workflow and culture of his team. Today, he helps drive the team's vision and ensures the data center remains strong, secure and smoothly run, 24/7.
I am blessed to have worked with multiple managers in Singapore, whose diverse leadership styles helped me grow professionally and shaped my approach to management and workforce philosophy.
