Intern to Impact – Michelle Chumiecki

Stepping into Big Tech feels exciting and sometimes overwhelming, but at Equinix, early‑career talent quickly discovers a place where curiosity is encouraged, growth is championed, and every step forward is supported. For many, what begins as an internship becomes the start of a dynamic journey shaped by mentorship, exploration and the freedom to pursue new paths. 

We spoke with Michelle Chumiecki, a Sales Operation Analyst based in Warsaw, to hear about her journey with Equinix. Here’s how one intern found not only meaningful experiences but a long‑term place to build a thriving career.

 

 

How was your internship experience with Equinix, and what made you decide to join the organization full-time?

My internship experience with Equinix was truly transformative. Prior to joining the company, I moved from the United States to Poland to pursue my Master’s in Business Psychology, an experience that deepened my interest in how organizations operate across diverse cultural contexts. I then began my journey at Equinix as an intern within the HR Services team, where I gained invaluable exposure to the company’s culture, values and commitment to empowering its people.

Working in HR allowed me to see firsthand how Equinix invests in employee development, fosters inclusion and builds a strong sense of community across its global network. This early experience gave me a deep appreciation for the people-first mindset that defines the organization.

During my internship, I also had the opportunity to serve as the Intern Ambassador for the EMEA region, where I was responsible for coordinating engagement initiatives, hosting networking events and creating a connected and collaborative experience for interns across multiple countries. This leadership experience enabled me to build relationships with professionals across various departments.

As my internship progressed, I became increasingly interested in how Equinix drives growth through strategic partnerships and data-driven insights. With the support of my mentor and colleagues, I transitioned from HR to the Channel Sales team, where I could combine my passion for people and process improvement with a focus on business operations and partner enablement.

The culture at Equinix encourages exploration, cross-functional learning, and continuous growth, which ultimately solidified my decision to join Equinix full-time. I knew I wanted to continue building my career in an environment where curiosity and ambition are not only encouraged but celebrated.


Could you describe your day-to-day role and share the impact that you make in what you do?

As a Sales Operations Analyst within the Channel Sales Program, my role is centred on supporting our partner ecosystem and driving operational excellence. Some of my responsibilities include analysing data and identifying process improvement opportunities to empower our sales teams to make informed, strategic decisions. 

A key aspect of my position involves managing and strengthening relationships between the Channel Programs team and other departments across Equinix. Through this collaboration, we align shared objectives, streamline processes and work collectively to achieve business goals that support the company’s broader growth strategy.

What is one thing the company has done to help you progress in your professional career?

Equinix has played a pivotal role in my professional development through its strong emphasis on mentorship, learning and career advancement. From my very first day as an intern, I was encouraged to explore new challenges, expand my skill set and take ownership of my career growth.

One of my most impactful experiences was participating in the Equinix Mentorship Program, through which I was paired with my current manager, Olga Zhihareva. Over the course of my internship and the following year, Olga provided invaluable guidance. Our conversations extended beyond day-to-day responsibilities, allowing me to gain broader insights into the organization and its culture.

That mentorship not only deepened my understanding of the business but also directly led to my transition into a full-time role on the Channel Sales team. Equinix’s commitment to developing its people has been instrumental in shaping my career journey.

In addition, I recently joined as the WeAreEquinix (WRE) Poland team as a co-lead. This opportunity allows me to continue growing my leadership skills while partnering with the WRE team to plan and execute fun and meaningful initiatives for all Poland employees, further enriching my development and connection to the company and all the wonderful employees.

What would you share with someone who is deciding to join us at Equinix?
