Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to be a member of the Equinix LATAM Tax Team with a primary focus on overseeing the Brazil Indirect tax compliance process, ensuring adherence to regulations, and leading projects related to VAT tax reform. The ideal candidate must have a strong general tax background including competent analytical and critical thinking capability. The position will report to the Head of Tax, LATAM.
What you’ll be doing
- Oversee and ensure timely and accurate filing of indirect tax and withholding tax returns for multiple subsidiaries in Brazil. This includes but is not limited to the tax analysis and calculation of Brazil Indirect Taxes in Municipal, State and Federal filing (i.e. ISS, ICMS, IPI, PIS/COFINS, ICMS-ST, ICMS Telecom).
- Analysis of Brazil Indirect Taxes credits.
- Monitor and conduct research on changes in tax legislation, including risk assessments and strategic planning.
- Lead initiatives related to VAT tax reform, including analysis of regulatory changes and their implications.
- Collaborate with internal teams to assess current practices and recommend enhancements.
- Work closely with FP&A to review quarterly/annual forecasts and prepare cash tax forecast.
- Assist with the tax controversy team related to tax audits in Brazil and discuss technical issues with tax auditors.
- Identification and maintenance of improvements/automation related to the internal controls processes, including tax compliance processes and mitigating risks.
- Analysis and implementation of tax benefits.
- Tax Analysis of Invoices - inbound and outbound.
- Tax Planning projects.
- Mentor and guide junior staff in indirect tax matters and compliance process.
- Foster a collaborative environment, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development.
What we’ll expect from you
- Experience with BIG 4 and/or corporate tax department is preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
- Significant experience and knowledge in Brazil (i.e. ICMS, ICMS ST, PIS, COFINS and ISS), and knowledge of VAT in LATAM is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex tax laws in a business setting, both in Portuguese and English, including the ability to interact. effectively with cross functional team.
- Self-starter with strong accounting, analytical, time management and project management skills.
- Ability to recognize, understand, and analyze complex issues with excellent communication and writing skills.
- Must be well-organized, hands-on, detail-oriented and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient computer skills including strong working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Cloud, PBCS) required.
- Proficiency in English & Portuguese required, Spanish preferred.
