Job Summary
As an expert electrical engineer in Global Operations Excellence (GOE) team, you’ll be a key driver of reliability, availability, and engineering excellence across our data centers —leading cross-functional projects, defining global standards, mentoring engineers, and resolving complex, multi-region operational challenges. You’ll partner with design and construction, site ops, vendors, and regional teams to deliver world-class mission-critical reliability and growth across our datacenter portfolio.
Responsibilities
Project & Program Leadership
Lead small to medium projects and global engineering initiatives; set objectives, timelines, identify risks, and define success metrics
Provide project leadership to ensure outcomes meet or exceed Equinix expectations across cost, schedule, quality, safety, and availability
System Operations
Own expert-level operational oversight of electrical systems. providing advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, commissioning/acceptance expertise in support of business objectives and resolve non-routine issues in alignment with Equinix standards and industry best practices
Leverage incident trends, near-misses, and root-cause analysis to recommend system-level improvements and configuration changes that strengthen reliability and reduce systemic risk
Apply and continuously improve operational control tools and safe systems of work (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, engineering script, risk assessment) and provide technical oversight by reviewing and challenging work practices to ensure risks are properly identified and controlled
Collaborate closely with other cross functional and site ops teams to resolve systemic engineering and operational challenges, strengthen reliability and improve operational consistency
Standards, Policies & Procedures
Develop, review, and govern best-in-class global engineering standards, policies SOPs, ensuring they are practical, consistently applied across sites and aligned with industry best practices. Provide assurance of adherence through structured documentation reviews, commissioning and acceptance activities and targeted physical audits
Drive continuous improvements by identifying systemic issues and root causes, and recommending system-level enhancements, configuration changes, and control improvements based on operational insights and regional impact analysis
Training & Knowledge Enablement
Act as a subject matter expert across multiple critical electrical systems, designing and delivering structured, role-appropriate training to internal teams and cross-functional partners. Identify skill gaps and define targeted upskilling programs that strengthen organizational capability and operational consistency
Continuously expand domain expertise through vendor engagement, industry forums, and peer collaboration, and translate external learnings into internal knowledge assets. Lead technical briefings, seminars, and conference sessions to disseminate best practices and advance electrical engineering excellence across the organization
Vendor & Contract Management
Provide technical leadership and oversight to internal teams and external partners, including general contractors, A&E firms, commissioning agents, and critical equipment suppliers, ensuring alignment with engineering standards, scope, and delivery expectations
Support contract governance by contributing to contract development and review, evaluating technical change impacts, and monitoring vendor performance against defined KPIs and SLAs to drive accountability, quality, and predictable outcomes
Leadership & Communications
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and site ops teams, setting clear expectations, reinforcing accountability, and coaching for sustained performance and professional growth
Deliver clear, executive-ready communications using standardized formats and templates, and lead cross-functional development of SOPs and technical documentation—ensuring content is precise, consistent, and tailored to the needs of diverse stakeholders
Problem Solving & Innovation
Lead complex, cross-functional incident investigations and root-cause analyses, partnering with site operations and regional teams to identify systemic issues. Translate findings into documented lessons learned, corrective actions, and preventive improvements that are communicated and tracked to closure
Drive proactive problem management by piloting new approaches, components, and deployment methods, and recommending data-driven enhancements that reduce recurring issues and eliminate latent risks before they impact operations
What you’ll bring
In depth expertise in mission-critical electrical systems, including data center power generation, distribution, protection and monitoring and alerting systems, with broad technical depth across the electrical discipline
A proven track record as a trusted subject matter expert, including mentoring engineers and serving as a point of escalation for complex system-level issues
Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional initiatives in partnership with other GOE pillars, design and construction, site operations, and vendor teams
Strong understanding of operational control tools and safe systems of work, including Lockout/Tagout, engineering scripts, risk assessment and commissioning/acceptance testing, with a focus on risk control and operational assurance.
Exceptional executive-level communication and technical writing skills, with experience producing clear, standardized documentation and cross-functional SOPs tailored to diverse audiences
Experience supporting contract governance, including evaluation of technical change impacts and monitoring vendor performance against defined KPIs and SLAs
A results-oriented mindset with strong logical thinking, root-cause analysis capabilities, and the ability to translate regional insights into scalable, globally applicable recommendations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering or related discipline. Demonstrated experience in mission-critical industries, including telecommunication and data center service providers, critical equipment suppliers, oil and gas facilities, semiconductor manufacturing facilities, and utility plants
