Job Summary
APAC capacity management is a critical and complex function that optimises available space, power and cooling across data centers in the region. The Director, Capacity Management provides strategic leadership to a team of senior members and utilizes expertise to recommend and develop solutions, policies and procedures to optimise our data center capacity across the APAC region. This is a strategic role that involves managing teams across different countries in APAC and directly contributing to supporting our sales pipeline, while balancing technical considerations to secure Availability.
Responsibilities
People Management
Leads and manages a team of capacity managers in APAC
A strategic leader who directs the activities of a broad functional area and recommends implementing changes to methods
Builds a high performing team that delivers operational excellence in the day to day while also focusing on longer term, strategic initiatives around improving systems and processes in Data Center Capacity Management.
Driving Strategic Programs
Plays a pivotal role in shaping the development of a unified, global system for capacity management that delivers a single pane of glass visualisation for all key decision making parameters and eventually drives greater automation in Capacity management
Leads and drives specific workstreams related to the development of this capability, works cross functionally with dev teams and technical program management functions to build and execute on a clear roadmap
Problem Solving
Provides direction to staff as required to analyze and resolve critical technical problems
Recommends methods and approaches for finding solutions to problems that deviate from established processes or operational policies
Identifies opportunities for process efficiency improvements and implements as appropriate
Makes high judgement calls by triangulating diverse sets of data and analytics
Works with cross-regional/global departments to identify and resolve any problems related data center Capacity
Support the development of business cases that shape further investment and expansion plans by delivering capacity and load growth forecasts to inform decision making
Stakeholder Management and Interaction
Coordinates and leads department meetings including monthly and quarterly business reviews on key metrics and team deliverables
Meets monthly with country operations directors
Meets monthly with country sales directors and/or sales engineers
Data Analytics and Reporting
Reviews space and power inventory in the region across a portfolio of existing and new data centers
Drives accuracy and consistency of data related to Capacity by auditing and reviewing at regular intervals
Owns KPIs tied to operational efficiency, asset utilisation and availability for the region
Reviews required reports to approve fill rates and develop projections related to future expansions
Reviews and drives resolution of data quality issues related to capacity
Space/ Power Management
Reviews the data center space and power availability on a regular basis with team leads to ensure optimal utilization of space
Addresses any escalated concerns on assignment layout and seeks diverse opinions for decision making
Operations
Involved in resolution of operational issues that are escalated and unable to be resolved at subordinate levels
Collaboration
Collaborates with senior members of departments, including Finance, IT, Data Center Ops to address issues, answer questions, and develop cross functional processes
Ensures alignment across stakeholders on a single source of truth for available capacity that drives decision making around capacity allocation and optimisation
Works with stakeholders across sales, tech dev, program management, ops and other teams on the development of consistent global processes and tools for effective management of data center capacity in APAC and globally
Qualifications
15+ years experience preferred
Bachelor's preferred
Required Experience/ Expertise
Stakeholder Management: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence across a wide variety of stakeholders including senior commercial, financial and technical leaders to drive alignment and decision making at speed
Technical Expertise: Understanding of Data Center infrastructure, preferably an Elec or Mech Engineering degree. Ability to break down complex technical topics into simple priorities and deliverables and develop exec level decks to simplify complexities and drive focus
Hands on Leadership: Leads by example, ability to dive deeper into the day to day and operational level while also taking a more strategic big picture view of long term priorities
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to manage and analyse large sets of data, structure data appropriately, logically present frameworks and ideas for problem solving and quickly identifying insight from data or guiding teams on visualisation of data in the right manner to drive decision making
Background in Engineering, Manufacturing, Plant Operations, Supply Chain management with a focus on continuous improvement, LEAN/ Six Sigma can be helpful. MBA from a leading business school highly desirable. The individual needs to have a strong track record of and demonstrated success in leading and developing geographically dispersed teams. Should be an excellent communicator and proactive collaborator who can combine commercial acumen with engineering and operational awareness
