Job Summary

Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support. Leads small scale projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Assists with the development of engineering design standards, policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Assists in planning and directing day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either a construction project or delivery of operations for an IBX facility.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Assists in leading and managing projects or other design and engineering initiatives

  • Provides project leadership in ensuring projects or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations

System Operation and Work Practices (including Capacity Planning)

  • Performs complex maintenance and repairs on engineering systems, and develops SOWs for complex engineering system maintenance, replacement, design and construction projects

  • Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures to resolve non-routine issues (i.e., understands the historical background of how equipment settings were standardized and recommend changes to settings when an issue occurs which requires a setting to be changed)

  • Utilizes safe working practices at an expert level (e.g. can apply procedure for lockout/tag out, can explain MSDS, etc.)

  • Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others

  • Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to identify power and cooling limitations, discuss potential modifications and develop solutions to overcome limitations

Training

  • Shadows manager in the training and development of new staff

  • Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training and shadowing others

  • Is SME with some systems and trains others inside and outside of the group

Contract Administration

  • Executes effective contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation

Leadership and Communications (including Vendor Mgmt.)

  • Supports in mentoring junior team members

  • Supports in directing all internal and external project team members

  • Assists in directing external vendors per project or initiatives such general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.

  • Expert level communication to include cross functional SOP development and relevant technical writing

  • Interactions are primarily to exchange information between departments within the organization

  • May include executive level communications in standardized templates

Policy & Procedure Development and Adherence

  • Provides feedback on policies and procedures

  • Participates in review of policy and procedure documents

  • Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities, design summits and Data Center physicals

Data & Drawing Management

  • Works with site operations to address discrepancies with documentation of facility infrastructure and installation of customer cages within a moderate scope

  • Ensures that AutoCAD drawings and capacity systems correctly represent existing status of the data center within a moderate scope

  • Identifies and make corrections as necessary

  • Identifies and leads the investigation of moderate data issues with the support of senior staff

  • Produces developed drawings and space plans for use by Sales, Site Operation and other teams

  • Creates spatial layouts of each customer cage which are used by the other capacity teams for their reviews, and by the Sales Engineers and site teams for customer installations

  • Drawing and inventory preparation, which may be reviewed by more senior members

  • Creates numbering plans for new sites, compiling inventory list, and preparing the drawings files used to track assignments

  • Compiles as-built underground utility drawings as required to create a comprehensive record drawing for each site within a moderate scope

Problem Solving

  • Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve (i.e., works with local ops team to perform root cause analysis, proposes solutions to issues and produces lessons learnt for future reference)

  • Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems

  • Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments

Technical Expertise

  • Has an expert level system knowledge

  • Is a subject matter expert to others in the group (i.e., a single going to person for a specific topic/system)

  • Participates by presenting at internal and/or external engineering or construction related seminars/conferences

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in electrical system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with emphasis on data center or mission critical project delivery

  • AutoCAD or CAD software experience preferred

  • Bachelor Degree

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI : 90,000 - 136,000 USD / Annual

Canada - Toronto Office TRO : 81,000 - 121,000 CAD / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
