Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer acts as a SME and mentors new engineers within the business. Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support of our data center HVAC systems. Lead small to medium scale HVAC projects and the roll out of mechanical HVAC engineering initiatives. Assists with development and implementation of mechanical HVAC engineering design standards, policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either a construction project or delivery of operations for a data center facility.

Responsibilities

Project Management

• Leads and manages technical HVAC projects and review Mechanical design and engineering initiatives
• Provides guidance and project leadership in ensuring Mechanical projects, design and engineering initiatives meet or exceeding company expectations

System Operation and Work Practices (including Capacity Planning)

• Extensive operating knowledge of critical facilities HVAC engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs
• Interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines
• Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to resolve power and/or cooling limitations and optimize resource utilization

Leadership and Communications (including Vendor Management)

• Contributes to mentoring new team members within the business
• Directs all internal and external project team members
• Directs external vendors per project or initiative such as general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
• Expert level communication to include cross-functional SOP/MOP development and relevant technical writing
• Interactions are primarily to exchange information between departments within the organization
• Includes executive level communications in standardized templates
• Host internal meetings and contribute to team members' professional development.

Policy & Procedure Development and Adherence

• Contributes to creating and maintaining best in class policies and procedures
• Participates in review of policy and procedure documents
• Develops policy documents with the input of others
• Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities, design summits and data center physicals

Problem Solving

• Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve
• Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems
• Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in a critical facility or data center environment
• Knowledge of data center HVAC mechanical engineering e-sign
• Efficiency and data modeling
• Strong MS Excel skills for data modeling
• Experience developing and managing projects with internal and external stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
