Who are we?

Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company®, shortening the path to connectivity to enable the innovations that enrich our work, life and planet.

A place where tech thinkers and future builders turn bold ideas into breakthrough experiences, we welcome your unique perspective.

Help us challenge assumptions, uncover bias, and remove barriers—because progress starts with fresh ideas. You’ll find belonging, purpose, and a team that welcomes you—because when you feel valued, you’re empowered to do your best work.

Job Summary

You will help lead Network Operations transformation: introducing network-as-code disciplines, building automation tooling, and coaching the team until automation is the default, not the exception

This is not a pure software role. You will continue to operate and support production infrastructure - Cisco/Juniper LAN/WAN, Palo Alto firewalls, Juniper Mist/Cisco Meraki wireless, and F5 load balancers - while progressively automating the work that today consumes manual engineering effort. Success is measured in both uptime and tickets permanently eliminated.

Reporting to the Manager of Global Network Operations, you will work across a multinational follow-the-sun team, with hybrid on-site presence and participation in a weekend on-call rotation as defined in our current operating model.

Responsibilities

Network Automation & Transformation (Core Focus)

  • Own the network-as-code lifecycle end-to-end

  • Design, build, and iterate on automation frameworks covering device provisioning, configuration deployment, change validation, and rollback across Cisco IOS/NX-OS, Junos, and Palo Alto PAN-OS.

  • Own the network CI/CD pipeline: linting, schema validation, lab testing, staging, and phased production roll-out for all network-as-code changes.

  • Coach and up-skill the existing network engineering team through pair programming, code reviews, and structured knowledge-sharing sessions - building collective automation fluency across the org.

  • Build and maintain a reusable library of Ansible roles and Python modules the whole team can consume and contribute to.

Network Operations & Platform Support

  • Serve as Tier 2 escalation for network incidents and service requests across the full enterprise stack:

  • Cisco / Juniper LAN & WAN (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN/EVPN, 802.1Q)

  • Palo Alto Next-Gen Firewalls  (PAN-OS)

  • Juniper Mist & Cisco Meraki wireless platforms

  • F5 load balancers and application delivery

  • Perform incident response, triage, troubleshooting, and resolution; participate in post-incident reviews and own automation follow-on action items.

  • Conduct advanced health checks, configuration modifications, and platform upgrades; ensure adherence to configuration and design standards.

  • Manage vendor escalations for ISPs and OEMs; collaborate with Infosec, Architecture, and AppDev on security and performance improvements.

  • Participate in periodic weekend on-call rota and ad-hoc after-hours activities; provide on-site network support as required (<10%).

Observability, Telemetry & SRE Practices

  • Build Grafana dashboards and alerting rules for network performance KPIs; drive alert false-positive rate below 15%.

  • Help build SRE functions within the network operations team: define SLIs/SLOs, track error budget consumption, and lead blameless post-incident reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, IT, or a related discipline - OR equivalent demonstrated professional experience (portfolio and references accepted in lieu of degree).

  • Continuous learning evidenced by professional certifications, open-source contributions, or published technical writing.

  • 3-5 years of hands-on network engineering experience in production enterprise or service-provider environments.

  • 2+ years dedicated to network automation or NetDevOps - building, shipping, and operating automation tooling at scale.

  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-vendor environments: Cisco and Juniper required; Palo Alto and F5 strongly preferred.

  • Proven track record of taking automation from idea to production - including defining success metrics, iterating on data, and communicating results to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum or Kanban delivery methodologies with sprint-based project delivery.

  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow and ITIL processes (Incident, Request, Problem, Change).

  • Comfortable operating within a multinational, follow-the-sun team model; excellent English verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Cisco CCNP/CCIE (Enterprise, Service Provider, or Data Center) or Juniper JNCIP/JNCIE.

  • Cisco DevNet Professional or Expert certification.

  • Palo Alto PCNSE or equivalent firewall automation certification.

  • Juniper Mist or Cisco Meraki wireless certification.

  • Open-source contributions to networking or automation projects (GitHub portfolio strongly encouraged).

  • Experience in SRE or NRE roles using error budgets and SLO-driven operations models.
