We are seeking an experienced HR Strategic Planning Director to join our team at Equinix. This role is ideal for someone who is a builder, wants to help shape the future, and is willing to be vulnerable in recognizing that our progress will not be linear.
Reporting to the VP of HR Strategy, this role will build and lead a 5-person team. The Director, People Strategic Planning is accountable for end‑to‑end enterprise people strategy orchestration, ensuring tight integration within the People Strategy team; the People Leadership Team and their reports; HRBPs; Corporate Strategy and Finance.
This role translates long‑term business strategy into cohesive workforce priorities, investment decisions, and execution rhythms, ensuring leaders have a clear, integrated view of where the organization is going, what workforce it needs, and how progress is tracked.
The Director of People Strategic Planning is responsible for leading and overseeing the development and execution of People Function’s strategy as well as Enterprise Strategic Workforce Planning. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and successful implementation of priorities. Responsibilities
Enterprise People & Workforce Strategy Integration
Own the integration and coherence of the enterprise People Strategy and Workforce Strategy, ensuring alignment to 3–5 year business priorities
Serve as the custodian of strategic narrative and plan, connecting people priorities, workforce capacity, skills, and investments into a single view
Author and facilitate the development of our People Strategy document and refresh components of the strategy as needed
Ensure clear articulation of tradeoffs, risks, and strategic choices related to workforce and talent
External Trends, Research & Future of Work
Ensure the organization maintains a strong external POV on workforce trends, AI, skills evolution, and labor market dynamics
Guide synthesis of internal insights (eSat, attrition, org shifts) with external research to inform strategy evolution
Champion forward‑looking thinking without losing execution discipline
Strategic Workforce Planning Oversight
Provide senior leadership and direction across SWP Strategy and SWP Operations, ensuring strong linkage between: Strategic intent and future‑of‑work assumptions; Workforce scenario planning and modelling
Ensure SWP outputs are decision‑relevant, scalable, and trusted by executive leadership
Governance, Planning Rhythms & Investment Alignment
Oversee People Team planning and governance mechanisms, including QBR rhythms, roadmap tracking, and enterprise workforce planning cycles
Guide strategic investment prioritization and resource allocation recommendations in partnership with Finance and People leadership (without owning cost centers)
Ensure consistent standards for planning quality, accountability, and follow‑through across teams
Executive, C‑Suite & Board Engagement
Accountable for executive‑ready and Board‑level materials that clearly articulate people and workforce strategy, scenarios, risks, and outcomes
Act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team senior People leaders on workforce implications of business strategy, AI adoption, and transformation initiatives
Translate complex data and modelling into clear strategic choices and implications
People Leadership & Capability Building
Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing, diverse leadership team
Establish clear role boundaries, decision rights, and collaboration norms across the strategy ecosystem
Model inclusive leadership, strategic clarity, and high standards for analytical and executive work
Qualifications
12+ years in HR strategy, workforce planning, consulting, or adjacent enterprise strategy roles
Demonstrated leadership across multi‑disciplinary teams (strategy, analytics, operations)
Deep understanding of strategic workforce planning, governance, and investment decision‑making
Strong executive presence with the ability to simplify complexity and influence senior leaders
Proven experience developing Board‑level narratives and materials
Comfort operating in ambiguity, scale, and matrixed environments
Strong people leadership, coaching, and talent development capabilities
Experience managing budgets and making cost-benefit trade-offs
Ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
Knowledge of HR best practices and industry trends
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:
Canada - Toronto Office TRO : 166,000 - 248,000 CAD / Annual
United States - Dallas Infomart Office DAI : 177,000 - 265,000 USD / Annual
Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.
The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
