This position reports to the Senior Director, Energy Operations and CleanTech in EMEA and is responsible for leading the execution of Equinix’s Global Energy and Sustainability strategy across the APAC region.

As a senior regional leader, this role provides strategic direction, governance, and operational leadership across energy procurement, renewable energy programs, and utility strategy. The Director will lead a team of Senior Managers and Managers, driving large-scale, business-critical initiatives while partnering with global stakeholders to accelerate Equinix’s decarbonization and energy resilience objectives.

The role requires deep expertise in energy markets, energy sourcing, and renewable solutions, with the ability to lead complex negotiations, oversee energy trading risk management, and shape regional strategy. The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of physical power grids, power constraints, utility infrastructure, and connection agreements, while influencing executive stakeholders across the business.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Regional Ownership

  • Own and lead the APAC energy procurement and sustainability strategy, aligned with global objectives and regional business priorities
  • Translate global strategy into region-specific execution plans, ensuring scalability, cost efficiency, and regulatory alignment
  • Act as the regional subject matter expert on energy markets, renewable solutions, and sustainability trends
     

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a regional team of Senior Managers and Managers across APAC
  • Build organizational capability in energy sourcing, contract negotiation, and sustainability program delivery
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture across geographically dispersed teams
     

Energy Procurement & Commercial Leadership

  • Provide executive oversight of energy sourcing, procurement, and contracting activities across APAC
  • Lead and/or sponsor complex, high-value negotiations with utilities, developers, and energy suppliers
  • Drive optimization of commercial terms, energy product structures, trading risk management, and long-term supplier partnerships across complex energy transactions
  • Ensure robust financial modeling, investment analysis, and governance for all major energy transactions
  • Provide commercial leadership across deal execution, utility management, project budgeting, and evaluation of energy products and solutions
     

Renewable Energy & Sustainability Programs

  • Oversee delivery of key renewable energy initiatives including:
    • Offsite and onsite PPAs
    • Environmental commodities (RECs, GOs, etc.)
    • Distributed energy solutions (fuel cells, batteries, etc.)
  • Lead renewable energy deal execution, project analysis, and asset management across regional initiatives to support Equinix’s carbon reduction and sustainability targets
  • Ensure alignment of regional initiatives with global ESG commitments
     

Utilities Strategy & Power Reliability

  • Provide strategic oversight on utility engagement, new power infrastructure, and connection agreements across APAC
  • Apply strong knowledge of physical power grids to map power constraints, assess interconnection feasibility, and support infrastructure planning decisions
  • Partner with Operations and Development teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and cost-effective power supply
  • Anticipate future capacity needs and support long-term infrastructure planning

Stakeholder Management & Executive Engagement

  • Serve as a key interface with senior internal stakeholders, including:
    • Global Operations
    • Finance & Accounting
    • Sales & Customers
    • Investor Relations & Marketing
  • Represent Equinix in external forums, industry groups, and partner discussions

Market Intelligence & External Partnerships

  • Leverage energy consultants and market intelligence to inform strategic decisions
  • Monitor regulatory, policy, and market developments across APAC
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utilities, developers, and industry partners

Qualifications

  • 12–15+ years of experience in energy procurement, utilities, or sustainability, with significant exposure to APAC markets
  • Proven leadership experience managing regional teams and complex, cross-border initiatives
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MBA or Energy-related discipline) preferred
  • Deep expertise in power markets, energy sourcing, renewable energy procurement, and PPAs across APAC
  • Strong track record of leading large-scale contract negotiations and supplier partnerships
  • Experience in financial modeling, project analysis, energy trading risk management, and commercial evaluation of complex energy transactions
  • Background in utilities, energy developers, consulting, or large-scale infrastructure environments
  • Strong knowledge of physical grids, power constraints, utility infrastructure, and management of new connection agreements and related asset considerations
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at strategic and executive levels, influencing senior stakeholders
  • Exceptional negotiation, commercial acumen, and decision-making capability
  • Strong communication skills with ability to present complex topics clearly to diverse audiences
  • Highly analytical with the ability to evaluate multiple scenarios and drive optimal outcomes
  • Ability to travel internationally across APAC as required
