This position reports to the Executive Vice President of Global Operations and leads the long-term strategic direction of Equinix’s Global Data Center Operations Engineering team. This includes:
Provide critical facility leadership and direction in areas of policies, compliance and procedures, risk assessment/mitigation, global maintenance and testing policies, vendor and customer relationships, safety, and employee development.
Work closely with other Equinix Operations teams, including Design & Construction, Operations Enablement, and Field Operations to ensure the facilities meet high availability/reliability/efficiency/productivity targets with class-leading customer service.
Your success is measured by delivering tangible results/solutions which help Equinix to meet or exceed all operating objectives.
Employ systems thinking and automation design to drive efficiencies and sustainability.
Lead, inspire and develop a team of 80+ globally located critical facility subject matter experts, including design and operations engineers, strategic account service managers, project managers, equipment technicians, maintenance planners, environmental, health, and safety specialist, and other staff as applicable.
Manage Data Center operations infrastructure to exceed six 9s, provide a safe work environment, and ensure compliance.
Ensure that Equinix’s 220+ data centers (AMER 102, EMEA 81, APAC 46) are operating per design through the detailed testing and inspections of customer live critical facilities.
Develop global operating best practices based upon detailed analysis of maintenance and failure reports, incident analysis, etc.
Direct global risk assessments, and upgrade design and components to maintain high availability and reliability.
Lead the customer-facing engineering incident response team including initial response, resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
Provide strategic reviews and recommendations for activities including global M&A, new design concepts, efficiency optimization programs, R&D, etc.
Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external teams, including vendors, customers, contractors, and government agencies.
Maintain and improve Continual Improvement processes and culture.
Direct the reporting of key performance indicators in the areas of productivity, equipment failures, maintenance costs, risk assessment and mitigation, environmental and training compliance, and equipment evaluation.
Deeply caring about technology, your craft and the success of your team and the company.
Knowledgeable in critical facility engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Technical expertise in critical power and cooling systems, life safety, and environmental compliance.
Demonstrated success at improving availability, reliability, productivity and managing expenses.
Experience managing revenue or operating budgets for a global organization.
A flawless understanding of executive-level customer incident management.
Ability to clearly translate complex technical information in a way that your audience will understand.
BS Engineering preferred with a successful background in people, thought and results leadership.
