Job Summary
Equinix is seeking a Sustainability Intern focused on AI for Sustainability within the Sustainability Program Office. This intern will support Equinix’s efforts to explore and pilot AI‑driven solutions that advance our climate and environmental, social and governance (ESG) ambitions. Reporting to the Director of Sustainability Technology, the intern will work cross‑functionally with internal teams and external partners to research industry practices, develop prototype AI tools, and create an enablement roadmap that helps teams leverage AI to accelerate sustainability outcomes. Candidates should bring curiosity, foundational experience with AI or data analysis, and an interest in applying emerging technology to climate and ESG challenges. The role combines applied research, prototyping and cross‑functional evaluation across ESG reporting and sustainability enablement workflows.
Responsibilities
Conduct targeted industry research on AI for sustainability, including how companies use AI to reduce emissions, improve ESG reporting, or enhance sustainability performance
Synthesize research findings into clear insights, opportunities, and best practices for Equinix
Assist with designing and prototyping an AI agent to support ESG reporting and monitoring
Identify use cases where AI can support sustainability enablement and operational workflows
Develop a recommended roadmap outlining AI‑assisted training modules, adoption pathways, and implementation considerations
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand needs and evaluate early functionality
Integrate responsible AI and data governance considerations into workflows
Support documentation, testing, and iteration of AI tools and internal sustainability workflows
Communicate key activities, progress, and learnings to stakeholders through written updates and presentations
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in sustainability, business, environmental science, data science, computer science, engineering, public policy, economics, or a related field
Foundational understanding of AI/ML concepts, large language models, or data analysis methods
Interest in ESG, corporate sustainability, or climate solutions
Strong analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to translate complex information into concise insights suitable for varied audiences
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate across teams
Attention to detail when evaluating model outputs, workflows or data quality
Interest in responsible AI, governance or data ethics is beneficial

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is:
United States: $25 - $35 / Hourly
Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.
The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
