A place where tech thinkers and future builders turn bold ideas into breakthrough experiences, we welcome your unique perspective.

Job Summary

As a Staff Engineer for Equinix Fabric, you will contribute to building a fully programmable, self-service Connectivity-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform that underpins critical global connectivity. You will write production-quality code, participate in architectural discussions, and help raise the technical bar across your team.

We are looking for a senior technical contributor who combines deep hands-on engineering skills with solid systems thinking. You will own the technical lifecycle of product features end-to-end, collaborate closely with engineers and architects, and mentor junior colleagues. You are comfortable diving into root-cause analysis, communicating clearly across teams, and continuously expanding your technical knowledge.

Responsibilities

System Design

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems. Apply SOLID principles and clean architecture patterns, working collaboratively with architects on technical direction for Equinix Fabric

Feature Ownership

  • Own multiple product features from design through delivery. Understand customer use cases, dive deep to resolve root causes, and ensure your work meets the SLA demands of Equinix Fabric’s global partner base

API & Integration

  • Help define and maintain API contracts (OpenAPI/Swagger) and Northbound/Southbound interfaces, ensuring reliable integration between Equinix and cloud partners including AWS, Azure, and GCP.

Mentorship & Code Quality

  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing. Actively contribute to a culture of technical excellence within your squad

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Communicate clearly with product teams and internal stakeholders as they adopt new platform capabilities. Translate feature requirements into solid technical design and working code

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of software development experience with demonstrated ownership of large-scale distributed systems

  • Experience contributing in a senior individual contributor or technical lead capacity is a plus

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience

Networking & Infrastructure

  • Solid understanding of the OSI model and its application in management and control plane software

  • Familiarity with cloud networking concepts and Virtual Network Functions (VNF)

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) and Docker in a containerized microservices environment

Distributed Systems & Data

  • Working experience with high-throughput messaging systems such as Apache Kafka

  • Practical knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL/TSDB technologies, with understanding of consistency and availability trade-offs

API & Connectivity

  • Proficiency in REST API design and OpenAPI/Swagger specification

Soft Skills

  • Clear, concise communication — able to translate requirements into design decisions and working code

  • Collaborative mindset and intellectual curiosity

  • Track record of seeing technical problems through to resolution
