Global Operations Compliance objective is to enable Equinix’s mission, vision and strategy by ensuring these are embedded in our management systems. It does this by enabling a compliant, measurable and demonstratable level of internal control of compliance with regulatory requirements, customer requirements and business policies across all regions, and by driving the consistent application of all Equinix compliance requirements across the globe.
The Senior Manager, Operations Compliance-Environment Health and Safety manages and develops the Environment Health and Safety (EHS) strategy, programs and policies. The role will be a key player within the Global Operations Compliance in further enhancing the culture and awareness of compliance and continuous improvement within Operations. The role will be based in EMEA and support the EMEA region to ensure the region operates to Global EHS policies and standards.
This role has EMEA coverage and can be based in any of our major European office locations (London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris etc.)
Compliance Implementation / Consulting
Directs overall support strategy for region looking for opportunities to improve risk mitigation and improve programs
Leads EHS compliance governance to ensure consistency of global process/policy implementation
Leads on EHS programs and projects and works with process owners to continuously improve
Works cross functionally to improve adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements
Acts as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor for EHS and EHS related compliance standards
Develops the safety culture and provides recommendations to improve processes and the resolution of complex issues related to EHS
Monitor with the Products and Marketing teams for the development of new EHS requirements and standards implementing these where appropriate
Ensures reporting, analyses trends, and makes recommendations to modify and improve EHS practices
Develop, organizes, and monitors EHS training as needed
Develops, monitors, drives, and maintains an effective EHS and energy management system and policies aligned with business requirements of Equinix
Ensures a consistent approach to assessment of EHS risks and the management of significant risks
Leads compliance effort with respect to new and existing regulatory requirements and addresses issues and expectations on any regulatory inspections/notices
Ensures all EHS incidents are reported and investigated using proper root cause analysis methods
Oversees/Ensures all required compliance records are maintained as required
Assesses strategic training needs and creates training strategy in collaboration with other teams
Creates relevant compliance training content and monitors training of external/internal stakeholders to assure necessary training is delivered to applicable employees
Develops and leads management reviews
Oversees development, management, and delivery of the annual EHS audit and assessment program (internal and external) for their region
Evaluates efficacy of the team’s audit management and the deployment of corrective and preventative actions to the field, systems, and processes
Ownership of certifications and manages roll out of new certifications
Defines and maintains audit criteria and controls based on industry and Equinix updates and best practices
Reports and tracks findings to senior management and stakeholders and escalates as appropriate.
Provide support with GAM/STRAT-A Customer audits and Request for Information (RFIs) for customers
Manages and builds relationships with Senior leadership within the region
Manages external certification audit body and responsible for relationship management with vendors, liaises with customers as SME
Works closely with Data Center Management and Country compliance teams to enhance our culture of Environmental, Health and Safety compliance
Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
Leads, manages, recruits, retains, develops EHS compliance staff, within the assigned region for relevant/assigned compliance related subjects.
Bachelor’s degree in EHS related subject or Engineering
Qualified in safety to national country level
Certified Lead Auditor in ISO14001, ISO45001 or ISO50001
Extensive experience in leading compliance and management systems (10 years+) in in critical process industries such as data center, IT, telecommunication, airlines, or other industrial environments
Proven experience in implementing ISO14001, ISO45001 across multiple sites. ISO50001 is desirable and policy development
Excellent communicator on all levels of an organization with the profound ability to build trust relationships and create leverage in a matrix organization
Experience in developing EHS cultures and behavioural safety
Expert knowledge level of EHS and energy regulatory, risk and compliance requirements as related to data center operations
Prior experience in managing and developing a team
Ability to sort through complex technical issues and implement innovative solutions to resolve difficult problems
Experience working with various cross functional teams and cultures
Proactive and with good analytical skills and problem-solving mind-set
Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities
Must be able to travel internationally, up to 25%.
