The role of the xScale Sales Engineer is to provide technical leadership, accountability and governance for all pre-sales technical aspects of Equinix’s Hyperscale program, known as xScale, within Asia Pacific.
The xScale Sales Engineer is expected to lead customer engagement around engineering and design of customer deployments within xScale facilities, including customer design validation, design reviews, customer feedback to Equinix’s xScale design and construction team(s), operational impacts of design changes, etc. This person will be regarded as an industry expert by customers, competitors and peers in their region and globally. The xScale Sales Engineer will also be an expert in the competitive landscape and competitive product set in which Equinix operate. We will look to this person to influence technical strategy, report on competitor innovation and have a detailed, current and forward-looking picture of market trends, pricing and competitor win/loss information.
This role is critical to the success of the Sales Engineering team and the wider Equinix xScale team, and will focus on delivering quality and consistency in the way we engage with our customers and suppliers across the APAC region during the sales and design cycle, as well as providing exemplary support and service to our existing customer base through detailed technical knowledge on all Equinix products and services.
Working directly with hyperscale customers and prospects as the primary technical point of contact, performing customer-facing engineering functions in support of customer acquisition, project installation and custom construction solutions.
Primary technical lead for proposal generation and RFx responses.
Lead site tours, technical sales meetings and customer design reviews.
Evaluate customer needs and match with current portfolio of products and services.
Serve as the liaison between internal Equinix groups (xScale, Design & Construction (D&C), Operations, etc.) and our customers alongside the regional xScale Technical Director, ensuring projects are moving as planned. Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance at Equinix.
Interact directly with hyperscale customers, understanding their needs from a technical infrastructure point-of-view, then helping to drive decisions and agreement with Equinix teams including xScale, GAM, D&C, Security and Operations.
Lead the bid management of all customer fit-out work pre/post Ready for Service (RFS).
Manage all local on ground process from bid to vendor selection/relationship management, assist the sales process in conjunction with the D&C process to avoid scope gap. Leverage D&C for all pricing elements of quote generation.
Work in support of Equinix Sales and Legal to ensure technical requirements in commercials are accurately documented and the Equinix solution is compliant.
Represents Sales Engineering as a technical leader in region for their customer(s).
Contribute to the competitive cost and technical analysis.
Contribute to the site selection process for future development planning by guiding on known customer preferences.
Coordinate with Customer Project Managers on handoff for customer project implementation.
Have working knowledge of disciplines related to data centre infrastructure including utility, architecture, structural, electrical, mechanical, low voltage systems, security, network, fire protection, etc.
Focus on electrical and mechanical knowledge from main customer demarcation (UPS/STS panel/breakers) to customer equipment and customer network connectivity.
Have a complete understanding of the xScale product offering and options.
Have a deep and current understanding of customer requirements, especially layout and planning convention, operations conventions and lifecycle management. This role should be considered a trusted advisor to the customer engineering, deployment and operations teams.
7+ years customer facing experience in related industry preferred
Hyperscale colocation provider or cloud service provider experience preferred
Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering preferred
