The Global Network Architecture and Engineering organization at Equinix is seeking a seasoned Principal Network Architect with focus on submarine cable network ecosystem solutions architecture and data center solution implementation engineering to develop strategies, architect/design, advise implementation of submarine cable termination in to Equinix global data centers with Cable Landing Station (CLS) termination (including PFE) or other fiber/spectrum/capacity termination architecture use cases. The submarine cable ecosystem leads to the growth of Equinix colocation, power, and interconnection services product lines. Equinix’s 200+ global data centers (known as Internet Business Exchanges TM or IBXTMs) provide space, power, network interconnections, programmability, large-scale and high performance for Equinix customers.
Ideal candidate would have extensive technology and design experience in Submarine and Terrestrial Optical Transport Networks, Cable Landing Stations, and Next-Generation Data Center Networks with extensive professional contacts in subsea industry including customers, cable owners, service providers and turnkey system providers (TE SubCom, ASN etc.) to support the growth of the submarine cable ecosystem at Equinix.
Architect/Design and support deployment/implementation of solutions for Submarine Cable Landing Stations and Optical Transport Networks
Develop strategies to terminate new submarine cables with clear understanding of various existing and new coastal landing station markets where Equinix can provide edge data centers for CLS use case
Support/assist global business development and corporate development groups to support development of business cases for constructing new purpose-built landing stations as one of the use cases for Equinix edge data centers strategy.
Develop/maintain global opportunity lists for new cables from concept to operations and classify them in to Equinix architecture models and provide updates to business/corporation development and sales groups.
Responsible to provide advisory support for data center site design for CLS use case and system layout including cable guides (optical and high voltage electrical) rack, space, power and signal flow as part of the implementation of dry part of the wet plant (optical), SLTE, and PFE equipment or capacity termination in cable landing stations or data centers
Responsible to guide and advise cable landing station technicians regarding installation/maintenance/operations issues with SLTE, optical equipment, PFE, and EMS and interact with P-NOC and S-NOC personnel associated with external partners/customers and Equinix enterprise SW application development groups (for ticketing/help desk applications for operations)
Author internal and external collateral on subsea topics that contribute to the growth of the opportunities and to serve to educate the audience in various groups
Represent Equinix to present papers or as a panelist at subsea and other industry conferences like PTC, SubOptic, Submarine NW World, OFC etc.
Advise installation of submarine cables termination and cable guides and power infrastructure starting from Beach Man Hole (BMH) to Equinix Data Centers colocation through Zero Man Hole (ZMH) and all the way in to the customer cage for cable landing station architecture/use case (and other architectures) for subsea line and optical systems. Activities that require project specific advice include:
Engineering and implementation of shore end installations, and testing operation
Install, maintain, and support Element Management Systems (EMS)
Support regulatory and legal requirements, security, and performance
Must have 15+ years of experience in telecommunications and optical engineering architecture/design/implementation/operations/maintenance experience in submarine and/or terrestrial optical networks with service providers/vendors/turn-key providers etc. organizations
Some experience in one or more of the following areas: large-scale, mission-critical applications, network management systems, or Operations Support Systems
Demonstrated knowledge of major industry standards: TMF, TNM, ETSI, ITU, ONF, Telcordia, etc.
Understanding of Software Defined Networks for Datacenter Networking including controllers/orchestrators with transport SDN/Telecom network management protocols like Netconf/Yang/XML/JSON/SOAP/OpenConfig/RestConf/OpenFlow/Rest APIs preferred
Familiarity with link level design and test/troubleshoot/root cause analysis for optical DWDM equipment hardware and system and EMS software from TE Subcom/ASN/Ciena/Infinera/Cisco/Nokia etc.
Familiarity with optical test equipment (traffic generators, OSA, OTDR, CD/PMD, BERT, and optical power meters, etc.)
Familiarity with optical and electrical cabling standards and implementation with special conduits etc.in data centers or telco central offices
Familiarity with automation frameworks for production high capacity optical networks
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Strong project management and organizational skills
BS in CS/EE or equivalent with MS/PhD preferred

In accordance with Colorado State Law (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb19-085) the salary range for Colorado for this role is $150K- $205K per year with 25% bonus target.
