Principal AWS Solutions Architect

Job Summary: The AWS Principal Architect is a senior-level position that provides multi-cloud design expertise to internal Equinix customers. The individual will architect and craft global standards for Equinix private AWS Cloud environment. The Architect will also regularly interact and work directly with all Vendors, Equinix Enterprise Architecture, and InfoSec teams to understand requirements, develop global standards and select and design next-gen cloud architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AWS network, security, compute, and storage architectures.
• Act as domain authority in the areas of AWS.
• Translate Equinix IT business requirements into a clear & concise, efficient network architecture.
• Research industry standard methodologies and figure out relevance and feasibility of incorporating them in cloud-based designs.
• Author and maintain AWS architecture and standards documentation.
• Provide recommendations for automation playbooks and drive towards infrastructure as code.
• Works in crafting the roadmaps for products and deployments.
• Drive AWS and process innovation through research and evaluation of both groundbreaking and well-established technologies.
• Participate in industry events and forums in an effort to further close that infinite gap between what we know and what we still have yet to learn.
• Participates in requirements/architecture discussions, design reviews, UAT, and deployment/training processes of various projects and products.
• Defines AWS requirements and aligns technology roadmaps.
• Understands cloud designs and associated models Vendor Management.
• Builds and maintains effective working relationships and partnerships with team members.
• Architect solutions applying industry standard methodologies.
• Resolve operational weaknesses within the existing server, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure, and present an execution plan to remediate problem areas.
• Evaluate and find opportunities to improve the security and/or performance of existing environments.
• Implementation and enforcement of existing and self-designed security measures and policies to protect Equinix from both external and internal attacks and/or abuses.
• Travel may be required to meet project objectives. Approximately <5% travel.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of multifaceted AWS cloud architecture experience in global large-scale enterprise environments preferred.
• 8+ years architecting, crafting, and implementing AWS infrastructure preferred.
• 2+ years of experience architecting supporting VMC on AWS preferred.
• Bachelors' preferred.
• AWS domain authority.
• Consistent track record designing and implementing hybrid multi-cloud architectures.
• In-depth knowledge of AWS technologies such as EC2, Lambda, S3, and Transit gateway.
• Knowledge of and experience designing Docker containerized environments in the cloud.
• Hands-on experience with VMware Hypervisors and associated products.
• Hands-on knowledge and experience with VMC on AWS.
• Infrastructure Security experience around securing AWS cloud environments.
• Real-world experience automating cloud deployments and tasks using Terraform.
• Ability to work as a member of a multi-functional team.
• Ability to document solutions with Visio, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate with clients, management, and peers.
• Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Experience/Knowledge

• Expert Hybrid Multi-cloud data center design.
• Proven experience architecting large AWS environments.
• Experience with Equinix connectivity products.
• Experience and/or knowledge of Docker Containers with Kubernetes.
• Design and implementation of VMC on AWS.
• Building Automation in AWS using Terraform.
• In-depth cloud networking knowledge as it relates to Layer 3 technologies.
• Experience with Aviatrix deployments.
• Application stack layer 3-7.
• Positive demeanor with a love of learning new tech.
