Job Summary:

Part of a wider Global Technical Assistance department, this role will have responsibility to operate, monitor and support Equinix networks across EMEA/APAC/AMER regions.

Performing 2nd and 3rd level troubleshooting to resolve system & network performance related issues, whilst driving continuous service improvements and working closely with the Service Delivery Team to ensure an outstanding service to all partners.

To support the 24 hour nature of the business, this position will participate in an on-call rotation and although predominantly office based there are times when you will be required to work in our data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Drive incident and problem to root cause, document, follow up and track on remedial/preventive actions
  • Interface between Network Engineering departments and SMC.
  • Collaborate with partners, carrier providers and our hardware vendors to manage and troubleshoot the network (circuits, cross connects and trouble case management)
  • Drive tool improvement and new features request.
  • Reviews the metrics and proactively identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency of the Network Engineering departments.
  • Monitor and review network performance, reliability and security.
  • Troubleshooting of Network issues, supporting SMC – Service Engineering team and Customers.
  • Identify operational issues and suggest design alterations to address these issues.
  • Working in a distributed GLOBAL Network operation support team.
  • Schedule network maintenances (CMR’s), including MOP’s and upgrades driven through the global change management process and implement error free environment.
  • Creates and modifies the documented guidelines, cheat sheets used by the Ops team, etc and providing training for new starters.
  • The role is typical in office environment but requires sometimes to work in our data centers.
  • This position will participate in on call rotation to support network incident resolution.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • 3-5 years of experience in the field of Networking/Telco preferably with operational experience in an ISP/Carrier environment.
  • Multi-Vendor knowledge for Infinera, Ciena, Cisco (Photonics/NCS), Nokia and Juniper.
  • In-depth knowledge of Optical Transport Networks SDH/OTN/DWDM transmission systems including passive optical networks, coherent transponders, Flexible Photonic Architectures, EDFAs amplifiers and ROADM.
  • Deep knowledge of, Packet Based Networks, Routing, Redundancy Protocols like, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, MPLS, Ethernet
  • Applied expert knowledge of LAN, WAN, internet technologies
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects concurrently, work under deadlines, maintain budget, and be able to produce under a mission critical environment.
  • Fluent English in speaking and writing is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project planning and management skills, including ability to identify and assess risks
  • Flexibility
  • Perform on-call support

Desirable

  • Skills on UNIX, Linux and monitoring tools and programming languages
  • Experience with Ciena 6500, Waveserver Classic/Ai/5, Infinera DTN, Coriant G30.
  • Experience with Ciena MCP
  • Experience with Infinera DNA
  • Security background configuring Firewalls
  • ITILv3
