Network Service Engineer III

Job Summary:

Responsible for: network design and planning, capacity management, vendor evaluation, activation and deactivation of customer services, troubleshooting and fault resolution of reported and detected faults, performing effective maintenance to the equipment to prevent faults from occurring, procurement and installation of equipment for expansion and new services.

Knowledge Requirement:

• Knowledge of DWDM based transport solutions and concepts required

• In depth knowledge of SONET and SDH is required

• Understand the Optical Network Architecture

• Working knowledge of 1, 10 and 100Gbps Ethernet, SONET, SDH and OTN switching.

• Familiarity with the operation of Data Centers, POP and ILA sites.

• Must be able to understand and operate various networking tools and databases.

• Ability to work under pressure with a diverse team.

• Ability to work under minimal supervision.

• Attendance and punctuality are both essential functions of this position.

• Understand space requirements, demarcation points and AC/DC power.

• Understand Optical Switch Protection

• Must be able to understand and operate various networking tools and databases.

• Working knowledge of different fiber type is required

• Knowledge of switching technologies (802.1Q, STP, RSTP, PVST+) is plus

• DWDM/optical certification a plus.

• Familiarity of Cisco, Infinera gears and Ciena ROADMs, COADMs and Waveservers, including commissioning, troubleshooting and provisioning of new circuits and services.

Skill set:

• Troubleshooting

  • Participates in the development of troubleshooting guides

• Network Design

  • Ability to translate of high level architectural designs into platform configurations;

  • Develop methods of procedure that implement the design changes in the network platforms

  • Review available options and develop most effective solution for network growth.

• Commissioning/ Installations

  • Assists in creating engineering deployment packages (EDPs), including rack elevation drawings, space and power requirements, cable run lists, and any other site-specific documentation

  • Completes documentation for use by Operations (EDPs, configurations, and training guides)

• Testing & Validation

  • Supports developing and executing test plans and procedures

  • Supports hands-on tests to validate, network design, network deployment, and introduction of services and features

• Vendor Management

  • Analyzes platform near term roadmaps and makes recommendations for release upgrades

  • Feedback test results for inclusion in future vendor releases
