Job Profile Summary
Mentors engineers within the regional engineering, design, construction and site operations job families.
Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support.
Leads medium to large scale projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives.
Develops and implements policies and procedures.
Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures.
Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either multiple, large construction projects or delivery of operations for an IBX portfolio
Leads and manages multiple projects or other design and engineering initiatives
Provides guidance, technical expertise and project leadership in ensuring projects or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations
System Operation and Work Practices (incl Capacity Planning)
Expert operating knowledge of mechanical engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs
Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issues
Works with vendors to identify and resolve hardware and software issues with vendors products which affect Equinix operations
Utilizes safe working practices at an EXPERT level (e.g. can apply procedure for lockout/tag out, can explain MSDS, etc.)
Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others
Reviews and recommends work practice guidelines and policies
Interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines
Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to formulate long term strategies for managing power and cooling resources
Contributes to identifying and developing training programs
Provides cross-functional training
Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training, participation in industry groups or meetings and shadowing others
Is SME with many mechanical engineering systems and trains others inside and outside of the group
Contributes to developing and executing effective contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation
Leadership and Communications (incl Vendor Mgmt)
Mentors junior team members
Directs all internal and external project team members
Directs external vendors per project or initiative such as General Contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
Significantly contributes to establishing and maintaining high value relationships
Provides executive level communication including business requirements documents and advanced technical writing
Communicates Equinix operations decisions to customers and conducts post incident communications with customers
Conduct quarterly business reviews with vendors to assess performance, discuss issues and align expectations
Policy & Procedure Development and Adherence
Significantly contributes to creating and maintaining best in class policies and procedures
Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities, design summits and IBX physicals
Develops high level reporting / summaries of policy compliance information
Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve
Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential operational problems and to remove single point of failures to enhance system reliability
Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments
Perform root cause analysis and provide recommendations based on cost benefit analysis
Has an expert level system knowledge on mechanical engineering systems in data centers
Is a subject matter expert to others in and outside of the group
Extensive knowledge of multiple facets of the relevant engineering discipline
Develops and executes projects
Reviews budget and scope, calculates savings pertaining to system improvement and PUE improvement projects
Calculates savings and profitability of energy efficiency projects
Leads internal and/or external engineering, design or construction related seminars/conferences
Bachelor Degree in Engineering in Mechanical engineering or any other relevant engineering qualifications
8-10 years’ of relevant experience in mechanical systems design, installation and operations in data centers or other mission critical facilities preferred
Excellent application knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, concepts and principles
Proficient in the application of reliability engineering principles
Well experienced in the profitability analysis and the implementation of energy efficiency projects and PUE improvement initiatives in data centers.
