Job Summary

Coordinates day-to-day HR operations in Canada, and collaborates with local leadership to deliver HR services. Ensures execution and delivery of global HR programs within Canada. Oversees labour relations for Canada.

Responsibilities

HR Partnering

  • Manages day to day HR Operations in country and partners with leadership ensure delivery of HR services

  • Cultural ambassador, fully integrating the Magic of Equinix

  • Partners with HRBPs to manage HR projects in-country and HR representative on company priorities with Canada focus

  • Collaborate with local leaders to guide decisions and implement organizational changes; leads employee level execution for transformation projects and organizational changes

HR Programs

  • Plans and implements HR programs for Canada

  • Executes performance and rewards program

  • Mentors managers on HR process and programs, and interprets local requirements

  • Collaborate with the business and serve as key lead on reporting, analysis and insights as key HR programs are implemented, such as our pay and performance review process and employee engagement survey

HR Policy & Process

  • Custodian of adapting global policies and processes for Canada in partnership with Employment Legal and HR Services

Internal HR Partnerships

  • Builds and leverages relationships with other teams (such as talent management, talent acquisition, rewards, HR advisory and HRS, and Employment Legal)

  • Partners with HR Services to continue to build HR operating model and infrastructure in Canada

  • Partner cross-functionally on HR process improvement, including interpretation of local requirements

Employee Relations

  • Partner with key business leaders and HR Business Partners in support of functional priorities

  • Lead and facilitate resolution of employee relations issues to assist employees and managers in creating a productive, engaging work environment. Where required, lead and complete investigations into employee concerns

  • Assess employee performance challenges or development needs, recommend solutions, and coach managers on team effectiveness, workforce planning, and leadership development

  • May work with local management to influence execution on organizational changes

Labour Relations

  • Partners with leaders at all levels as the need arises to develop strategies to build and foster positive relationships with our Union partners to assist in furthering organizational goals and objectives

  • Provides advice and information to leadership on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement and on workplace legislation and policies

  • Support HR and Operations in grievance administration by providing training and education on collective agreements and the handling of employee issues

  • Conducts grievance investigations and audits grievance activity to identify underlying issues

  • Provides direction to management on the appropriateness of disciplinary and non-disciplinary actions

Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years experience in HR management and Labour Relations

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Organization Development, Human Resources or a related field preferred

  • English and French language capability required

  • Direct labour relations experience required, Collective Bargaining experience preferred

  • Knowledge and experience supporting U.S. operations preferred

  • Extensive knowledge of workplace legislation

  • Knowledge of grievance and arbitration processes

  • Multifaceted HR background required– demonstrable experience leading complex situations, creative problem-solving and strong influencing skills in a matrixed environment. Must have outstanding judgement and discretion

  • Solid communicator and negotiator with effective interpersonal and dispute resolution abilities

  • Track record of successfully mentoring and guiding leaders

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Experience in workplace investigations

  • Intermediate digital literacy in MS Office Package, with advanced digital literacy in Excel and PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of Workday preferred

  • Some travel required
