Job Summary: The primary mission of the Edge Specialist is to help Equinix clients and client prospects understand, adopt and use Equinix’s portfolio of Edge Products on the Equinix Platform.

The Edge Specialist must be proficient in consultative technical selling techniques and maintain a challenger mindset. Validated experience in owning and winning the technical customer decision for sales opportunities and usage scenarios through tailoring your message, bringing ideas to customers, engaging with them to show our technology differentiation, and guiding them in decision-making. 

To be successful in this role, you’ll be familiar with application development and deployment, creation and maintenance of infrastructure that supports complex application environments and possess skills across multiple platforms, including cloud, distributed systems and complex networking.

In addition, you’ll have extensive subject matter expertise in the following technologies:


Network Function Virtualization:

  • Traditional Networking functions such Routing, Firewalling, Load Balancing, Switching, etc. supporting designs for Cloud to Cloud Routing, Secure Cloud Connectivity, Network Optimization

  • Software Defined Networking (Designing, Incorporating and Configuring Branch to Cloud and WAN Optimization)

  • SDN/NFV Architecture based around standards from ONF, ETSI NFV ISG, OPNFV, and IETF.

  • Orchestration Technologies / Frameworks (MANO) such as ONAP, OSM, Open-O, CORD/XOS, Cloudify

Application and Infrastructure as a Service including:

  • Bare-Metal as a Service (Incorporating sizing, workload identification, architectural requirements)

  • Hypervisors and Virtualization technologies including those made by VMWare ESX, ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, Oracle VM etc

  • Systems orchestration and automation technologies such as for Bare-Metal (Packet), Cloud (Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Terraform, Cloud Formation), Containers (Kubernetes, Docker), Systems (BMC etc)

Responsibilities


Sales Alignment

  • Subject Matter Expert aligned with Regional Sales Teams driving the advancement of Equinix Edge Services and support in the advancement of the overall Equinix portfolio.

  • Provides Equinix Platform Product Technology pre-sales solutioning expertise to Equinix global sales and channel teams

  • Lead competitive strategy for Edge services within assigned account teams. 

  • Identify and help qualify opportunities while working with your Account Teams to build business cases for Platform Equinix and Edge services adoption and consumption. 

  • Work with your account teams to obtain a strong understanding of each account's governance and decision processes and the customer's business & technology priorities.

  • Lead to clear technical and competitive blockers to accelerate Platform Equinix and Edge portfolio sales and customer consumption.

  • Manage, maintain, forecast, and assist in the closure of Edge opportunities via Salesforce.com.

  • Prepare and conduct Customer workshops

  • Prepare and deliver Customer presentations

  • Enable Equinix partner sales and technical teams on product use cases and configuration

  • Develops peer relationships with customers and partners

  • Use our core and social connection tools, and AI-driven data to extend your reach and the reach of your account team, focusing on satisfying important customer needs.

  • Demonstrates Equinix values through the provision of credible and convincing reasoning through compelling solutions to have a customer choose Equinix.

Technical Solution Design

  • Proactively identifies and analyzes opportunities and problems within customer context, business plans, technological statuses, and strategic direction with the specific view of applying the Equinix Platform Portfolio of Edge products.

  • Building and maintaining technical trusted advisor relationships with influential technical decision makers for the successful adoption and deployment of the Equinix Platform Edge

  • Services and technologies both in support of a customer or a partner building out a new solution or service, and or in the support of partners sales efforts.

  • Drive the adoption of Equinix Platform by aligning customer requirements with Equinix Platform Product roadmaps

Product Feedback

  • Provide market sensing feedback to the Product and Marketing Teams

  • Provide any product/feature faults and gaps identified through the sales process to the Product and Marketing Teams

Qualifications

  • Technical degree (Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering) or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical pre-sales and/or technical sales consulting role.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in infrastructure, database and networking architecture for highly available, Internet-scale applications, and complex IT solutions (including scalable cloud-based solutions and microservices architectures).

  • Insatiable Learner. Desire to know more than the standard and stretch to know more than Equinix products required.

  • Technology practitioner. Committed to knowing not just what solutions can do but practices the skills required to properly implement solutions required.

  • Able to work cohesively with customers, members of the Equinix (or similar) sales, services, and marketing organizations and Equinix (or similar) partners required

  • Excellent Communicator. Outstanding written & verbal communication, collaboration, organizational, presentation, and deep technical product demo skills required

  • Validated experience engaging with senior level executives, CTOs, Enterprise Architects, IT Management, and developers.

  • Consultative Technical Selling and Challenger mindset. Validated experience in consultative technical selling approach, including bringing innovative ideas to customers problems and being customer focused.

  • Highly driven passionate person who consistently exceeds goals and expectations required.

  • Growth Mindset. Experience and passion for learning (technical and professional skills); implementing practices from others; trying, failing, and learning from both successes and failures; sharing practices and knowledge for others' benefit.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience architecting large scale solutions on AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud or equivalent

  • A master’s degree in computer science, MIS, engineering or equivalent technical degree

  • Holds active certifications from at least one Cloud Service Provider – e.g.: Google Cloud, AWS, Microsoft Azure

  • Holds active Network technology certifications such as Juniper JNCIA or JNCIS-ENT and/or Cisco CCNA/ CCNP/CCDP accreditation and in Firewalls specifically Juniper SRX range, and Cisco ASA Next Generation.

In accordance with Colorado State Law (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb19-085) the salary range for Colorado for this role is $123k-$172k Base Salary.
