In this DoD Skillbridge Internship Equinix is currently seeking a (Military Transitioning Service Member) w/HVAC Mechanical Engineering Associate to report directly to our Senior Analyst of Energy Efficiency. The successful candidate will have current college /technical coursework completed or relevant experience in mechanical engineering pursuant to bachelor’s degree completion and have a solid foundational knowledge of methods, practices, and programs that relate to HVAC mechanical engineering. The full job description is listed below:

Job Summary: The HVAC Mechanical Engineering Associate assists in preparing a detailed analysis of data center HVAC systems to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency.   Performs a variety of assignments requiring the application of standard engineering techniques for small projects or selected segments of a larger project. Performs design layouts and features, which require researching, compiling, and recording information for assigned project work.

Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Works in partnership with a multi-discipline team of engineers and architects to develop and create projects that improve energy efficiency within a data center environment.
  • Evaluate Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) performance within the built environment.
  • Performs mechanical calculations to determine loads and size equipment.
  • Spatial coordination, including the use of 3D and Building Information Modelling (BIM) collaborating with architects and other designers in meetings and workshops to prepare and coordinate integrated building designs.
  • Assists in improving mechanical performance of building systems to include heating, cooling, ventilation, building automation, and process systems.
  • Analyzes building codes, space and site requirements, and other technical documents and reports to determine their effect on engineering designs.
  • Researches and evaluates mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet project requirements.
  • Researches and analyzes design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs and applications.
  • Assists in evaluating mechanical designs for energy performance or environmental impact.
  • Assists in designing integrated mechanical or alternative systems to improve energy efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Must meet all eligibility requirements outlined in DOD Instruction 1322.29 and NAVADMIN 222/15. Required
  • Official TAD/ TDY Orders to Equinix for the period of the internship. Required
  • Technical Associates Degree, military-technical school, or civilian technical trade school completion
  • Education level: Working on bachelor’s degree or relevant experience with 1-4 years in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Coursework in HVAC design or heat transfer and thermodynamics
  • Knowledge of HVAC testing and balancing methodologies
  • Good time management habits, ability to multi-task, to sustain focus on long tasks.
  • Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas.
  • Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based work assignments.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
