At our cutting-edge Hyperscale Data Center, SY9 in Rosehill, we’re expanding our team of Critical Facilities Engineers in a newly created role. This is not your average engineering or data center role. You’ll be at the frontline of maintaining and evolving mission-critical infrastructure, from power systems and HVAC to fire suppression and plumbing, in a live, critical and high-performance environment.
You’ll be part of a fast-paced, diverse team driving operational excellence across Australia’s hyperscale landscape. This an extremely customer centric and facing role, and you will own the customer experience onsite—engaging directly with clients, solving problems, and being the go-to expert for all things infrastructure.
MOP creation, process improvement, and exploring next-gen technologies like Liquid-to-Chip cooling solutions will all be an exciting and evolving part of the role. Managing vendor relationships, set up and execution of maintenance contracts, and collaborating with internal and external team to keep everything running smoothly.

Key responsibilities:
Plan and completes all maintenance protocols, plans, activities on time and accurately, including monthly, quarterly and annual site maintenance
Customer facing – ability to build site relationships with all customer stakeholders
Take ownership of your portfolio work, this will include all engineering within Liquid to Chip data halls
Manage and oversee specialist vendors for all major works, planned repairs and maintenance to all data center systems, this includes set up and execution of new maintenance contracts
Performs minor changes to mechanical, electrical and special systems if necessary. Stays in touch with and is inquisitive and proactive in assessing and utilizing new technologies, products or processes
Ensures that sufficient spare parts are available on site for frequently used parts or parts with long lead times and maintains critical spares register
Responds to BMS (Building Monitoring System) alarms in accordance with engineering policies and procedures, escalating to and working with Controls Engineering team where required.
Oversee plumbing and fire suppression systems vendor activities
Coordinates/oversee work with vendors to ensure that maintenance activities are carried out as per Equinix's requirements
Commissioning and project work that will vary in scale and scope over time
Edits and tracks the work approval process for service providers (including briefing at the start of work, control of work during the day, final review of the work carried out)
Recommend changes/updates to technical files for plant and equipment in cooperation with vendor, and the supervisors, ensuring as built are up to date
Create, update and review engineering documents (Method of procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Operating Procedures)
Ensures that all Equinix safety standards are followed, as well quality procedures related to maintenance, including all Incident Management
Reviews processes, procedures, and systems. Communicates process deviations and proposed changes to a higher level so that relevant follow-up measures can be carried out
Develops training and supports training of other IBX (International Business Exchange) employees in relevant engineering topics and processes
Provides guidance and mentoring to junior engineers within the team
Qualifications, key skills and attributes required:
Understanding through practical experience of critical facility operations
Engineering related Degree or Trade Qualifications, with an understanding and experience in building services
Strong customer mindset, and experience handling conflict resolution, customer queries and building relationships
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive situations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively, including working autonomously and proactively where required
Be capable of acquiring or already holding NV1 Security Clearance, with a collaborative mindset but also with the drive to complete assigned tasks unsupervised
