Job Summary
The Capacity Planning Associate resolves routine data management and drawings for installations within a limited scope.
Responsibilities
Space Planning & Design
Creates standard Cage-Cabinet design options that respond to moderate customer requirements, Equinix requirements and physical site constraints
Prepares notional Cage-Cabinet layouts, area calculations and diagrams for each individual standard data center within a limited scope
Enhance space utilization to develop the best design solution for the IBX and the customer
Engineering
Utilizes developed knowledge of electrical/mechanical infrastructure to notionally attribute standard Cage-Cabinet designs against IBX infrastructure
Produces sample solutions for validation by more senior members
Problem Solving
Recognizes standard, cross-functional issues that span multiple groups and knows to whom to escalate
Data & Drawing Management
Works under supervision in discrepancy of documentations of added/modified infrastructure in facilities and any standard installation of customer cages within a limited scope
Ensures that AutoCAD entry level drawings and capacity systems represent what is installed at the site
Works under supervision with site teams to ensure data and CAD drawings accurately reflect the site installations
Provides support to maintain the integrity of the capacity inventory data
Provides support to create spatial layouts within a limited scope
Collaboration
Works with immediate team members and may have external collaboration with assistants of more senior team members
Coordinates with various departments for the monthly reporting of capacity trends, availability and accuracy of records for the site
Answers standard inventory-related questions from cross-functional departments
Where planning decisions are in dispute between sales and operational needs, the engineer is expected to identify them
Capacity Feasibility & Optimization
Works with Senior Capacity Engineers and/or site engineers to identify power and cooling limitations
Acts as at the first point of contact for the CFR process to ensure that space is being assigned maximizes the value of our data centers by optimizing the efficiency of our space within a limited scope
Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
Accomplishment to work an integrate in a diverse team where people appreciate and support each other
Ability to learn and use tools for spatial imagination (ideally basic AutoCAD experience)
Driver to understand the background and consequences of actions in a bigger picture
Motivation to directly engage with different stakeholders
Identify, analyse, prioritize and solve challenges where different stakeholder needs are competing
Above all, a great willingness to learn more and grow in this role and as a person
Good German languages skills
Good English language communication and writing skills
Basic understanding of the data center business & technical structure preferred
Basic knowledge to handle databases & CRM software
Ideally knowledge in agile working & agile working tools (optimally Jira)
Ideally Basic knowledge/interest in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
Knowledge and experience how to work with excel, PowerPoint and outlook
