Job Summary: The Agile Practice Director is responsible for designing, evolving, and delivering to Equinix’s IT Agile Practice in collaboration with business leaders, IT executives and stakeholders. This individual is responsible for building and developing a Agile competency in the roles of Scrum Masters, Release Train Engineers and Enterprise Agile Coaches. In close collaboration with a collation of transition leaders you are accountable for systematically enabling the continuous maturation of agility health throughout the organization. You are a subject matter expert who is seasoned in agile transition, has experience as a Lean-Agile coaching, executive partnership. People leadership is an integral part of the role.
 

Responsibilities

  • Leads the Agile Practice Development for the organization and is responsible for establishing strong cross-organizational feedback loops that guide continuous improvement and adaptation of the program.
  • Brings energy and engagement around agile adoption and excellence throughout the Enterprise to deliver Organizational outcomes.
  • Builds, leads, and provides role specific coaching for the Enterprise Agile Coach, Release Train Engineer, and Scrum Master roles.
  • Partners with executive leaders on establishing tailored agile transition roadmaps and plans across different areas of the business.
  • Complements APMO to reconcile processes and reporting where necessary (Strategy through Operations).
  • Perceived as a SME in domain and can providing coaching to the Enterprise from Leadership to Teams.
  • Proven experience in defining and launching Agile Release Trains (ARTs).
  • Able to guide coaches on cadence and synchronization at the Portfolio, Program and Team Level to improve effectiveness of progress towards the iteration or increment goals.
  • Instills the discipline within the Agile teams to commit to small batches of work, reducing feedback cycles, and adjusting to changing needs. Advises on key Iteration (Product Increment, Sprints, etc.) practices, on how to effectively and pragmatically teach teams how to break work into small features and user Story backlogs and groom for the next product increment or sprint.
  • Leads the design and execution of Enterprise, Program, and Team agility health assessment and recommends development plans and roadmaps for the skills and practices necessary to improve. Responsible for the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of standard multi-channel agile training programs in support of the organizations desire to develop development as Lean-Agile Leaders.
  • Responsible for maintaining and continuously evolving the suite of agile tooling & reporting to ensure meaningful standards, and information radiators are in place to illuminate efficiencies around value delivery, organizational agility, and opportunities for improvement of the agile transition program.


Technology Project Methodologies

  • Evangelizes new technology project methodologies to other departments.
  • Defines and communicates technology program management framework.
  • Obtains consensus among VPs and executives on project methodology, process, and templates.


Program Management Tools

  • Defines tool positions.
  • Evangelizes new program management tools.


Management Reporting

  • Facilitates monthly operational reviews of operational performance and roadmap status.
  • Responsible for reporting overall status to GTS senior leadership and executives, within and outside GTS, taking remediation action, when applicable.


Resource and Budget Management

  • Ensures resource allocations based on Org priorities.
  • Works closely with cross functional Leads & Project Managers to track resource allocation and utilization for portfolio projects.
  • Identifies potential budget shortfalls and escalate proactively.
  • Manages and/or escalates issues, as needed.
  • Provides input to the annual budget planning process relating to project/support/SW maintenance/ Renewals/purchases/etc. for his/her areas of responsibility.
  • Review and optimization of budget allocation.


System Optimization

  • Monitors adherence to KPIs.
  • Performs RCA if metrics are missed.
  • Proposes mitigation strategies for missed targets.
  • Is accountable for successful implementation of approved system improvement recommendations.
  • Drives adoption of best practices and standards.


R&D/Innovation

  • Drives innovation and provides thought leadership across the teams, rewards innovation, and helps communicate new ideas across teams.
  • Fosters and promotes a culture of innovation across local and global teams.


Process/Policies/Standards

  • Ensures departmental process/policies /standards are aligned with GTS priorities.
  • Defines process goals and measurement standards to ensure compliance. Optimizes processes to ensure continuous process improvement to drive process quality and productivity.
  • Ensures consistency and efficiencies across standards and policies.


Road Map/Planning

  • Responsible for leading strategic planning, influencing and driving prioritization of initiatives with executive stakeholders.
  • Responsible for developing and communicating a roadmap of projects and initiatives in support of stakeholder priorities to all levels of the organization.


People Management

  • Provides leadership and direction to the team, through senior managers.
  • Will likely lead a larger team or multiple teams focused on execution of area or sub-function plans.
  • Is accountable for the performance and results of direct reports and maybe a larger or multiple teams, perhaps global.
  • Responsible for succession planning recommendations and contributing to and driving the people development strategy.
  • Responsible for performance management of team members, including disciplinary actions and hire/fire decisions/ recommendations.
  • Responsible for the GPS process including assessments and Total Rewards allocations of direct reports and reviewing and approving manager recommendations.
  • Responsible for talent development, including quarterly conversations, career pathways conversations and individual development/growth plans.
  • Models the Equinix Culture and Values.


Review/Approvals/Escalations/Issues Resolution

  • Leads Senior Leadership and Executive level escalations.
  • Drives creation and delivery of executive decision making cycles, with objective and comprehensive presentation of issues, business impacts, options with pros/cons, budgetary estimates, and recommendations.


Vendor Management

  • Approves final vendor selection.
  • Executes and guides vendor evaluations by team members, guides recommendations and reviews negotiation communications for executive review.
  • Establishes vendor engagement, support and SLA mechanisms.
  • Participates in vendor advisory boards and user groups.
  • Accountable for creating and negotiating vendor contracts, MSA/SOW, License Agreements, and drives internal reviews with GTS leadership and Legal teams.
  • Executes medium-scale vendor evaluations, pricing negotiations and software acquisitions.
  • Accountable for vendor performance.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, Information Systems, or related field highly preferred.
  • 7 to 10 of experience leading large-scale Lean-Agile Transitions (preferably leveraging the Scaled Agile Framework) from design, implementation, and continuous improvement across the Enterprise.
  • Proven experience of managing both business and IT stakeholders in developing and implementing transformation strategies.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading teams and organizations using Lean Agile Leadership Principles.
  • Proven coaching experience in an Enterprise context, from Leaders to Teams.
  • Experience with one or more agile tools (such as Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, and/or other leading agile tools).
  • Success in leading large scale, complex, business, and technical cross-org. transition initiatives.
  • Strong people leader with proven ability to build strong teams, assess and coach talent, develop people, mentor, and course-correct with precision.
  • Encourage and support the personal development of each individual and the development of the team as a unit.
  • Ability to foster teamwork at all levels through influence over authority.
  • Organizational Change Management (OCM) and adoption strategy experience for Agile Transition is preferred.
  • SPC (SAFe Program Consultant) Certification Required, SPC 5 Certification is highly preferred.
