Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Engineer with 12+ years of industry experience and strong expertise in database engineering. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge in evaluating, provisioning, configuring, performance tuning, scalability, high availability, monitoring, and overall management of database services across both cloud and on-premises environments.
Hands-on experience with Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS RDS PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL), and Oracle database systems is essential.
In addition to core database responsibilities, this role requires the ability to design and develop AI-driven agents and automation solutions to optimize and streamline database operations and management.
Responsibilities
Cloud Database Platforms
Evaluate and recommend AWS database services, including Amazon RDS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL
Design, implement, and optimize cloud-native database architectures on AWS including query optimization and performance tuning, indexing strategies etc.
Lead and support database migrations from on-premises environments to AWS ODB, Amazon RDS, and Aurora PostgreSQL platforms
Implement and manage observability, monitoring, and performance analytics across hybrid and cloud environments
Database Automation & Platform Engineering
Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, Ansible, and scripting to automate database provisioning, patching, upgrades, backups, and operational workflows
Build and enhance self-service database platform capabilities to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency
Design automated health checks, capacity forecasting models, compliance validation, and remediation workflows
Drive standardization and automation across PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and cloud database platforms
AI-Driven Database Operations
Identify and implement AI-driven solutions to streamline DBA workflows and reduce manual effort
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend adoption opportunities within database and platform engineering teams
Backup and Recovery
Design and implement robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity
High Availability and Scalability
Architect and manage high-availability solutions, including QL Server Availability Groups, Aurora Global Database, Real Application Clusters (RAC), and Exadata-specific features
Security Management
Develop and enforce comprehensive database security policies covering access control, encryption, and auditing
Troubleshooting and Support
Provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex database issues, including performance bottlenecks, data corruption, and critical system failures
Capacity Planning and Growth
Analyze current and future database capacity requirements and proactively plan for scalability to support business growth
Ownership and Collaboration
Take end to end execution ownership of the defined strategy partnering with platform and applications engineering teams
Responsible for measuring and reporting improvement in operational efficiency
Collaborate closely with global, cross functional teams including application development, infrastructure, PO/PMs, and IT teams to support and optimize database-driven applications and services
Qualifications
12+ years of experience in design and development of highly distributed software platforms/systems
Bachelor/Master Degree in Computer Science or other equivalent field
Hands-on experience with Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS RDS PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL), and Oracle database systems is essential
Experience administering Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS database platforms
Experience with large-scale cloud database migration, modernization and transformation projects involving AWS ODB and RDS services
Good understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, and their application to infrastructure and database operations
10+ years of Proven track record in performance tuning, backup and recovery, and high-availability solutions
10+ years of Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL, with advanced troubleshooting skills
5+ years of experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) for agentic development and automation tasks
5+ Years of Strong familiarity with SOX compliance, AWS with Capacity planning
Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
