Job Summary

The CMDB Product Owner is accountable for the vision, roadmap, and value delivery of the enterprise Configuration Management Database (CMDB) as a core product within the Digital Service Management ecosystem. This role defines and drives the CMDB as a trusted, authoritative data product enabling service resiliency, operational maturity, cross-domain dependency mapping, automation, and governance across ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, APM, and security.

The Product Owner partners closely with architecture, platform engineering, asset management, network/server owners, procurement, security, and business service owners to ensure the CMDB continuously reflects reality, supports automation, and delivers meaningful business outcomes.

Responsibilities
Product Vision & Strategy

  • Own the end-to-end CMDB product vision, roadmap, and measurable outcomes aligned to Digital Service Management and Service Health initiatives

  • Drive the CMDB toward authoritative data sources, automation, and reduced customization

  • Define strategy for service mapping, dependency models, CI class lifecycle, and CMDB data standards

  • Partner with ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, APM, and Security to ensure the CMDB enables downstream workflows (change, incident, asset lifecycle, monitoring, discovery, HAMPro, SAMPro, etc.)

Roadmap & Delivery

  • Translate outcomes into clear, prioritized backlog items for engineering

  • Define MVP → iterative delivery cycles for CMDB improvements (normalization, reconciliation, enrichment, integrations, class model changes)

  • Ensure alignment with infrastructure teams (compute, storage, network, cloud) on domain-specific CI models and authoritative sources

  • Lead release planning, testing coordination, and user validation for CMDB enhancements

Data Quality, Controls & Service Health

  • Own measurable KPIs for completeness, correctness, and compliance, but emphasize actual service health and impact, not just static compliance

  • Define data quality rules, lifecycle policies, and automated validation

  • Partner with Service Owners to ensure business services and technical service CIs have accurate dependency models

  • Drive reduction of “unmodeled” or “unknown” infrastructure/services

  • Ensure the platform is ready for service health dashboards, AIOps, and predictive insights

Stakeholder Management & Governance

  • Serve as the single accountable owner for all CMDB-related intake, prioritization, and communication

  • Run and refine the CMDB governance model — roles, responsibilities, RACI, data stewards, CI class owners, authoritative sources, and intake channels

  • Host stakeholder reviews, demo sessions, and quarterly roadmaps

  • Define and enforce CMDB onboarding standards for new technologies and services

Architecture & Integrations

  • Partner with solution architects to maintain an enterprise CI class model aligned with platform leading practices

  • Ensure integrations (discovery tools, asset repositories, procurement systems, cloud providers, monitoring tools) follow CMDB standards

  • Evaluate new data sources and implement normalization, reconciliation, and deduplication strategies

  • Collaborate with Discovery, ITOM Health, and Event Management teams on service topology and dependency mapping

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor ongoing CMDB operations and bottlenecks tied to incident, change, problem, and asset workflows

  • Identify process gaps and drive continuous improvement

  • Support audit requests when needed but focus on avoiding unnecessary governance friction — build enablement, not gatekeeping

Skills & Experience
Required

  • Strong understanding of ITSM/ITOM/ITAM processes and how they depend on the CMDB

  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow CMDB, class modeling, CSDM, discovery, service mapping, normalization, and reconciliation

  • Ability to translate business outcomes into technical product requirements

  • Strong cross-functional leadership with domain teams (network, compute, cloud, database, security)

  • Experience managing a roadmap in an Agile product model

Preferred

  • Experience with HAMPro, SAMPro, APM, or cloud asset inventories

  • Experience driving modernization or simplification of a CMDB in a federated enterprise environment

  • Familiarity with Equinix’s internal infrastructure domain models (Data Center codes, service owner model, inventory systems)

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
