About the Role

As a Electrical or Mechanical Technician, you'll be responsible for maintaining the electrical and mechanical infrastructure that supports the day-to-day operation of the Slough Campus.
You'll work on systems including LV electrical distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, standby generators, cooling and HVAC equipment, pumps, water treatment systems, fire detection and suppression systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS). Through planned maintenance, inspections, testing, fault finding, and repairs, you'll help ensure these systems remain safe, operational, and maintained to a high standard.
Working as part of a shift team, you'll respond to alarms and equipment issues, support maintenance activities, coordinate contractors, and play a key role in keeping essential infrastructure running reliably across the campus.

What You'll Do

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine inspections.
  • Respond to equipment alarms, faults, and reactive maintenance requests.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Operate and maintain:
    • LV electrical systems
    • UPS systems
    • Standby generators
    • Switchgear
    • Cooling and HVAC equipment
    • Pumps and water treatment systems
    • Fire detection and suppression systems
    • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Complete operational checks, testing, and system inspections.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, inspections, and shift reports.
  • Coordinate and oversee specialist contractors carrying out maintenance works.
  • Follow permit-to-work procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Support incident response and equipment recovery activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and high operational standards across the campus.

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • Experience maintaining electrical or mechanical infrastructure within commercial buildings, facilities management, building services, industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, utilities, or similar environments.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), inspections, testing, fault finding, and reactive maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working on electrical distribution systems, generators, UPS systems, HVAC equipment, cooling systems, pumps, or other building services infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work effectively within a 24/7 shift operation.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Experience working in commercial or industrial environments with critical building infrastructure.
  • Experience maintaining electrical distribution, standby power, cooling, or mechanical plant equipment.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), permit-to-work systems, or switching procedures.
  • LV Authorised Person (AP) or equivalent operational experience.
  • IOSH, NEBOSH, or other Health & Safety qualifications.
