Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company, operating 240 data centers across the globe and providing interconnections to all the key clouds and networks. Businesses need one place to simplify and bring together fragmented, complex infrastructure that spans private and public cloud environments. With Equinix Metal, customers can rapidly deploy automated single-tenant infrastructure and interact with 2,000+ networks and 3,000 cloud and service providers. Our global platform allows customers to place infrastructure wherever they need it and connect it to everything they need to succeed.
At Equinix, we help the world’s digital leaders scale with agility, speed the launch of digital services, deliver world-class experiences, and transform people’s lives. Our culture is based on collaboration and the growth and development of our teams.
We hire hardworking people who thrive on solving challenging problems and give them opportunities to hone new skills, and try new approaches, as we grow our product portfolio with new software and network architecture solutions. We embrace diversity in thought and contribution and are committed to providing an equitable work environment that is foundational to our core values as a company and is vital to our success.
This role reports to the Head of Product for Equinix Metal.
As Director, Strategic Solutions, you will wear multiple hats, effectively functioning as a product management leader, a business strategist, partnership developer, and sales enabler in the effort to identify, assemble, and build multiple solution centric growth vectors for Equinix’s digital offerings. You will have the opportunity to showcase your leadership skills by building a team that supports these various solutions or “use cases”, identifying and implementing opportunities for driving growth across our platform.
Efficient growth and impact are paramount to this role. Revenue and consumption growth will all be clearly aligned metrics against which you and your team will be measured. You’ll also recruit, coach, and develop a team that is creative, empathetic, flexible, and results-oriented and that can further the cause of driving a data driven product mindset throughout the company and that can help identify new product led growth opportunities and then ensure that those opportunities are fully explored and – when viable - implemented, tracked, and enhanced.
Identify the right opportunities: A significant part of this role will be to understand and think strategically about the solutions our customers require and the outcomes they want to achieve to ensure we’re selecting the right opportunities to pursue based on alignment with our products’ and partners’ capabilities as well as the size of the market.
Align with the right partners: There’s a huge universe of potential software and hardware technology partners out there – building the right relationships with the right partners to ensure that customers are getting the best possible solutions to their problems is a key part of the role.
Remove barriers across functional teams: This role will serve as an evangelist and spokesperson for the Strategic Solutions practice, and working with other Product teams (Product managers, Engineering, Product Design, Marketing), as well as Customer Success and Sales to align the entire organization around the desire to realize that value.
Build the right capabilities: Beyond just aligning and coordinating with technology and service providers, the strategic solutions role will also directly influence and manage the prioritization of key internal capabilities that will either unlock or enhance our ability to deliver key solutions, or which will simplify our coordination and delivery of solutions involving multiple components from multiple vendors.
Provide ongoing strategic insights / focus / and direction: You will become a deep expert in technology trends and emerging challenges faced by digitally transforming and transformed businesses, understanding size, scale, and scope of the opportunity it represents for Equinix.
Integrating key tooling and analytics: You’ll also be expected to develop an understanding of the required analytics and product related capabilities necessary to accomplish both the short, medium, and long term vision and goals, and then ensuring that the corresponding systems, tools, and processes are understood and implemented. Critically, the ability to directly measure and attribute the impact of new capabilities and/or practices within the product or the company’s go to market / customer services motions will be required in order to successfully build this high impact practice at Equinix.
This is an entrepreneurial role that requires strategic, analytical, and creative skills; a deep understanding of and passion for solving problems with technology. Additionally, given that this role is an emerging practice at Equinix, the role will require extreme comfort navigating complex and evolving organizational boundaries, building alignment and support across multiple teams over which you’ll have little or no authority. Instead, you’ll be expected to evangelize and convince others of the value inherent in the models and systems for which you’ll advocate using data and clear business logic. You have fully embraced the concepts of empowered product teams and the product manager’s role within that team structure, sourcing ideas and solutions to challenging problems from a myriad of different sources, and then efficiently exploring which of those ideas should be pursued alongside key members of your product team.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to operate at all levels, and switch gears quickly - helping to set the objectives and discipline roadmap at a leadership level, shift into execution mode when opportunities are identified, and then prepare to recruit for team growth and lead that growing team as the product area gains traction and drives impact. You should apply to this role if you are:
A natural leader and community builder, able to effectively influence and build support from multiple stakeholder groups.
An attentive listener that can leverage the insights and inputs from others to identify opportunities, and lead teams towards aligned action.
An experienced project manager, able to organize work streams and multiple priorities and enable others to thrive
An experienced product manager, able to engage with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs, business challenges, and triggers to effectively de-risk the investments the company chooses to make
A facile and proactive communicator across various mediums.
Knowledgeable about the digital infrastructure challenges faced by the largest and fastest growing digital solution developers and digitally transforming enterprises
Driven, with a strong sense of ownership and an entrepreneurial spirit
Critical Success Factors:
Ability to navigate complexity, ambiguity
Possess endless curiosity
