EMEA South Controls Engineer (Italian & English Speaking)

As an Operations Controls Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the performance, visibility and reliability of the critical infrastructure that powers the digital world. You'll work across a diverse portfolio of data centres, collaborating with engineering, operations and technology teams to support advanced monitoring, automation and controls systems that keep our facilities running at the highest standards.

What you'll do

Support and Optimise Critical Infrastructure Systems

  • Configure, onboard and validate assets, alarms and monitoring points within Building Management Systems (BMS) and Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms.
  • Support the implementation and validation of power circuit monitoring within Branch Circuit Monitoring (BCM) systems.
  • Review and maintain electrical hierarchies using one-line diagrams, electrical schematics and associated documentation.
  • Validate and optimise infrastructure performance metrics, including Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE).

Troubleshoot and Improve System Performance

  • Investigate and resolve data quality, integration, communication and controls performance issues across monitoring platforms.
  • Support controls integrations, validating point mapping, alarming strategies and data flows.
  • Identify opportunities to improve monitoring coverage, operational visibility, alarm quality and overall system performance.

Deliver Projects and Commissioning Activities

  • Participate in commissioning, startup, testing and validation activities for controls and monitoring deployments.
  • Work closely with vendors, consultants, system integrators and site teams to deliver controls-related projects successfully.
  • Contribute to the development of technical documentation, procedures and implementation standards.

Collaborate and Share Expertise

  • Partner with regional operations teams, engineers and stakeholders across Equinix's global portfolio.
  • Share knowledge, best practices and technical expertise to improve operational effectiveness and reliability.
  • Support a culture of continuous learning, innovation and operational excellence.

What you'll bring

Technical Expertise

  • Experience in controls engineering, building automation, industrial controls or critical facility environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across field devices, controllers, network components and supervisory systems.
  • Knowledge of controls systems supporting electrical, HVAC, fire protection and other critical infrastructure.
  • Experience with BACnet, Modbus and OPC communications protocols.
  • Familiarity with one or more controls platforms, including Schneider Electric PLCs and AVEVA System Platform.
  • Experience with data collection, protocol conversion or historian platforms such as Kepware, Matrikon or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of IP networking concepts, including switches, routers, VLANs and network troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret Sequences of Operation, P&IDs, control drawings, electrical schematics and one-line diagrams.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Fluent written and spoken Italian and English are essential for this role.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence collaborating with colleagues, vendors and partners across multiple countries and cultures.
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach with excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within data centres, critical facilities, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors or similarly automated environments.
  • Exposure to commissioning, startup activities, functional testing or site acceptance testing.

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

Italy - ML2 Milan : 48,400 - 72,600 EUR / Annual

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
