Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Critical Facilities Engineer (Mechanical) to support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of mechanical and cooling infrastructure at our new JH2 data center in Johor Bahru.
This role plays an important part in ensuring stable environmental conditions within a mission-critical environment, while working closely with senior engineers and the broader operations team. The Engineer will gain exposure to a wide range of cooling systems and operational processes, contributing to site stability while building technical capability.
The role follows established procedures and standards, with opportunities to develop deeper expertise through practical experience, mentorship, and involvement in ongoing site operations and improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Facility / Infrastructure Maintenance
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on cooling and mechanical systems within the data center
Operate and support critical systems including chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, valves, and chilled water systems to maintain temperature and humidity within defined limits
Monitor Building Monitoring System (BMS) alarms and escalate or support resolution of issues related to mechanical and cooling systems
Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and environmental issues with guidance from senior team members
Support maintenance, inspection, and testing activities to ensure system reliability and uptime
Contribute to routine operational checks and ensure adherence to site procedures
Vendor Support
Support coordination of vendors performing maintenance or installation works on mechanical systems
Assist in reviewing maintenance activities and ensuring compliance with site safety and operational standards
Participate in pre-work briefings and ensure work is carried out according to approved procedures
Help maintain accurate documentation of equipment, maintenance records, and drawings
Site Administration & Incident Support
Support preparation of permits, documentation, and routine reporting related to mechanical activities
Assist in identifying operational risks and potential single points of failure (SPOFs) with guidance from senior engineers
Respond to on-site incidents involving cooling systems or mechanical faults under supervision
Participate in incident reviews and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) learning activities
Work Orders & Projects
Execute assigned work orders and support mechanical aspects of infrastructure installations or modifications
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving system issues to minimize operational impact
Support ongoing infrastructure works at JH2, including commissioning and site ramp-up activities
Contribute to maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Collaboration
Work closely with Operations, Electrical teams, and vendors to support daily site activities
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth coordination during maintenance and incident response
Learn from senior engineers and gradually develop technical decision-making capabilities
Share observations and feedback to support team improvements
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field
3-5 years of experience in mechanical, facilities, or critical environment operations (data center experience is advantageous)
Willingness to work on a rotational shift schedule
Basic understanding of cooling systems (e.g. HVAC, chilled water systems) and mechanical infrastructure
Strong willingness to learn and develop in a mission-critical data center environment
Ability to follow procedures, work in a team, and respond during operational or incident scenarios
Good communication skills and a proactive attitude toward problem solving
